If you're after the best robot vacuum cleaner on a budget to lighten the load of day-to-day crumbs, pet hair and toddler debris, the Lefant M210 is a great choice – especially if you can snap it up on sale. It's easy to use via the app, has a decent battery life, and picks up mess well on hard floors, including pet hairs.

There are a few downsides; it does have a tendency to bump into things and it can’t map rooms, but for just £100, it’s hard to grumble. We think this is a great entry-level robot vacuum cleaner for busy family homes.

How easy is the Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner to use day-to-day?

I found the Lefant vacuum (or Cinders, as we call her) easy to use. You start it by using the app, which is very intuitive. I also really like that you can link to two phones from the app as my husband initially set this up on his phone, but he works away a fair bit and having to text him to ask him to run the vacc was not ideal! So now we can both control Cinders and set her off whenever needed.

Alternatively, you can hit the top button to switch it on, and it will do a clean. However, you can’t switch between modes manually this way - you’d need the app for the full menu of settings. You can also connect it to an Alexa device, but as I don't have an Echo, I stuck with the app.

There is a version that comes with a remote control (priced at £110 from Amazon), though as the app acts perfectly well as a remote, this addition is more of a nice-to-have extra than an essential.

I don’t tend to use the schedule clean function, only because I prefer to do a quick once over and to ensure I’ve picked up LEGO pieces, crayons, or anything else that might get caught in the vacuum. Instead, I just turn it on using the app when I need it, roughly every three to four days. If you do want to set certain times for it to clean however, this can easily be done through the app.

The Lefant M210 features four modes: automatic, planning, fixed point, and edge. We’ve only ever used automatic as we just use it for the kitchen where we have laminate floor, and its effectiveness across the whole space has meant we’ve never needed to use the fixed point or edge function. If we've had a particularly messy meal, however, (something like flaky pastry or peas rolling off the highchair!), I still tend to reach for the dustpan and brush out of habit.

How well does the Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner navigate?

Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

The Lefant navigates OK, but it doesn't have the ability to map rooms and no-go zones like other more expensive robot vaccs. We’ve learnt that we can’t have it in the lounge as it gets stuck in the tassels of the rug, which means before we set it off, we have to close doors to lock it in the kitchen to do its thing. It also seems to take a long time to make it home to the docking station.

It does seem to bump into things a lot, which makes a banging noise. So while it’s a very quiet device when it’s cleaning, the noise of it knocking into the doors is a bit loud. It does move well over surfaces though and is able to move from laminate to the doormats easily.

How is the Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner's battery life?

This robot vacuum has a good battery life, and usually it successfully returns to the charging dock on its own. A couple of times it has run out of battery and we’ve found it stopped in the middle of the floor. That’s about once every 50 uses though, and likely is because one of the kids has knocked it off of the charging post so it’s not been as fully charged as it could be!

How well does the Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner perform on pet hair?

Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

The Lefant is a great little cleaner, and it picks up pet hair effectively on laminate floor. We do have a short-haired cat so there's not huge amounts of pet hair to contend with, but when we open it to empty the bin there is loads of cat hair in there so it’s obviously doing a good job!

It’s worth noting our cat enjoys watching this, and on one of the first uses we came down to find the cleaning ‘brushes’ had been pulled out of the hoover, which we can only assume was due to the cat swiping at them! They were easily reattached thankfully.

How easy is it to empty the Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner?

We use it every three days or so, and empty it each time out of habit, but we could probably leave it and only empty after two or three cleans. We only use it for our kitchen and hallway.

The bin's easy enough to empty too. You just lift the lid off the vacuum, unclip the front, pull the bin out, and empty it into the kitchen bin.

Does the Lefant M210 Robot Vacuum Cleaner offer good value for money?

We got this in the Amazon Prime Day sale and paid about £90 for it, down from £200. As a first robot vacuum, it’s great value for money. We have a five- and a two-year-old which means endless crumbs under the table and highchair so this avoids me being on my hands and knees under the table like Cinderella every night!

I'd recommend this budget vacuum cleaner to others, and we might even consider getting one for upstairs at some point.

"I have a Lefant off Amazon and I love it. It goes on offer quite a lot, I got mine for £120 a couple months back. I have three cats and two kids and it's just used to top up clean."

How we tested

I bought the Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner in July 2024 and have been using it regularly for the past eight months (approx 80 uses!).

On average, we set it off every three to four days to keep on top of crumbs, mud and general debris.

We’re a household with two young boys (aged two and five), a short-haired cat and plenty of mess. The downstairs of our home has laminate flooring, and we mainly use the vacuum in the kitchen, hallway and downstairs bathroom.
