Please help me find a swimming costume!!
I have ordered and sent back so many on line that i'm at my wits end.
I am looking for a swimming costume to wear on beach holidays and for a spa day that is coming up.
My main issue is that none seem to cover enough bum !
I didn't think I was a particularly weird shape but seems in swimsuits I am.
I'm 56 and 5ft 8inches, small bust (34A) and usually a size 10 for tops and trousers but I have been ordering a size 12 as none seem to cover enough cheek! but problem then of course is bust is too big and sometimes too short in the body
I have tried various from M&S, Boden and Next !
Wise Mumsnetters please help me find a swim suit with decent bum coverage that doesn't have lots of ruched tummy control and that will fit my bust!
Liked this but too high cut for my sagging bum ! https://www.marksandspencer.com/sculpt-broderie-trim-plunge-swimsuit/p/clp60759777?color=BLACK#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r1c1%7Cprodflag_plp_ts_CBS_5

tried this https://www.marksandspencer.com/tummy-control-printed-bandeau-tankini-top/p/clp60784541?color=BLACKMIX#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r1c1%7Cprodflag_srp_ts_QP_70

tried this shape - again too highly cut for bum!

Any advice for a well covered bum swim suit welcome

Thanks

I’ve previously had ones that have a built in skirt - would that be an option?

Latenightreader · 08/05/2026 10:39

Have you tried searching for swimming costumes with shorts? There are some pretty ones as well as the really sporty looking versions.

TheYorkshirePudding · 08/05/2026 10:39

Watching because it takes me AGES to find bum coverage! I’ve not even got a proper bum but it’s all this silly high legged show half your cheeks nonsense. I want my whole private bottom covered thank you very much. I’ll try remember my last brand that was good for this.

ednaclouda · 08/05/2026 10:43

Ive just bought a swimdres from amazon its lovely am a size 14

Daughn · 08/05/2026 10:54

I don't think you should have to go to boyleg/skirt mode to get full coverage. Unfortunately, the only ones I can recommend have the ruched stomach that you don't want.

Sundayagain27 · 08/05/2026 11:07

thanks everyone for the suggestions, i don't want shorts or skirt as bum not particularly big but would just like a swimsuit that doesn't slip up my bum and holds my cheeks @Daughn @TheYorkshirePudding your purchase recommendations would be great - even if rusched @Daughn thanks

I have a great arse (I do heavy weights) but that makes it even harder to find decent coverage and I don’t want to expose it to everyone! I gave up looking for the perfect swimsuit and just got a pair of swim shorts from Sainsbury’s for about £10. I either wear them over a swimsuit or with a separate swim top. Would that be an acceptable option, OP?

TravellingJack · 08/05/2026 11:13

Ah, just saw your update re shorts, sorry!

alloutofcareunits · 08/05/2026 11:13

Watching with interest, I tried to buy a bikini recently, I’m an 8-10 but still want the cheeks of my bum to be in the bottoms without wearing shorts 🤷🏻‍♀️ I found one in next but gave up on swimsuits due to any that aren’t ‘cheeky’ (H&M phrasing) having a control tummy which I don’t want as I don’t need to ‘control’ it. I’ll be wearing the swimsuits I bought a couple of years ago when it was still possible to find ones with arse coverage. I’m only short so it’s not even that I’m restricted by the length of the body

MissyB1 · 08/05/2026 11:40

I’ve heard good things about the Landsend tugless costume, thinking of ordering one for myself.

StylishAndBeautiful · 08/05/2026 11:55

A stylish friend has one.

Sundayagain27 · 08/05/2026 12:08

thanks will take a look at tugless! seem to have more joy with bikinis but need a one piece!!

I have a regatta tankini. I'm 5'4" so it looks like a one piece when I wear it.
The bottoms are more like boyshorts knickers legwise.

TheYorkshirePudding · 08/05/2026 13:09

The last one I had that covered my bum was from Pour Moi (it did say handwash only but lasted about 3 years of holidays and washed in the washing machine)

ohwhattodo1 · 08/05/2026 13:28

A bit random, but have you tried Matalan? I was in there this week for the first time in years, and was really impressed by the price and quality of their swimwear. I was looking for bikini bottoms rather than a swimsuit, but might be worth a look?

I was just going to suggest Pour Moi - I ordered loads a couple of years ago and the only one that covered my bum was from there.

TipsyLaird · 08/05/2026 13:35

Big fan of NipTuck which is an Australian brand, you sometimes see their stuff on TK Maxx.

NorthFacingGardener · 08/05/2026 13:37

It’s so annoying, they’ve all gone to a high cut leg.. I.e. your whole bum out.

I prefer Tankinis now for this reason, and the ones I have do look like a one-piece when they’re on. Mine are M&S and regatta.

Japlan · 08/05/2026 14:05

Have you tried Next Tall ones - at 5ft 8 body length could be adding to the problem

Bjorkdidit · 08/05/2026 14:19

What's wrong with the middle one from M&S and why do you need a one piece?

If you're finding swimsuits too short due to your height, a tankini could be a good compromise.

I’ve got a lovely bikini from
them that covers my bum properly

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 08/05/2026 14:42

I hate that they’ve all gone so high cut. M&S and Boden had really good long length swimsuits a few years ago but now they only cover half your arse. I want to be able to play on the beach with my children without having to think about my bottom!
