What an utter shit show this is going to be.

Yes

Why do you think it will be a shit show?

I think a lot of people will have voted Reform, because they're unhappy with the national picture. These are local elections; it's a whole different ball game. Voting Reform now because you want to see changes to immigration, isn't going to help your local area one iota. I think a lot of local councils will have a hard time, with inexperienced councillors. If the Reform candidates who were standing for election were banging on about national issues rather than local, it shows their absolute lack of knowledge about the job they're trying to be elected for...

TeaPot496 · 08/05/2026 00:58

Most of them resign when they realise how unequipped they are, by their own party

To be fair not most... but yes 10% of reform councillors gone within a year...one way or another. Inevitable really

Isittimeformynapyet · 08/05/2026 01:04

There's been a lot of discussion round here over the last couple of days about how best to vote tactically to keep Reform out. On social media, WhatsApp groups and in cafés, but I remember too well waking up to the news after Brexit, so I'm preparing myself for the worst.

OneTealShaker · 08/05/2026 01:11

Reform winning big tonight will set them up for a general election win. All those councillors and a ground game which the other parties will simply not be able to match.

Labour and Tories so deserve what is coming to them. They have destroyed this country and deserve to be voted into oblivion.

Well, the only, very thin positive I can think of is that Reform do what they've already done - screw over the local councils where they're already sat.

Perhaps 2 years of it may give people pause to think if they want this nationally.

Jesus, I am totally depressed but not surprised. Bloody Farage's mug everywhere, the nasty party in charge.

Enjoy a new, special Reform hell. Sometimes voting for different isn't the answer, especially with one so clear about ruining the UK further and taking away all the lovely things we've enjoyed in the UK.

Lovely things? You should travel more and see more of the world to raise the bar.

This country has been on the fastest trajectory to terminal decline for the last 30 years.

Mine's been the subject of Hope not Hate, the candidate and their racist and extreme views online for all to see. Reforms vetting process still piss poor and I bet get voted in tonight.

Unheard of 20 years ago this low bar of what people think is acceptable.

Monty27 · 08/05/2026 01:16

It depends on the main seats
Reform out in rich areas but I can see The greens doing well.
As for the other two I'd say Labour will do best on this one.

I have travelled thanks and lived in several countries. You should try not jumping to conclusions - same as how you think Reform are going to make it any better.

Goodbye human rights, they are anti-women, anti-NHS and Europe and more. The sense of fair play, kindness, tolerance and the ability to live a peaceful life that makes the UK a gem in the world is about to be a thing of the past.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 08/05/2026 01:19

The only tiny bit of comfort that I can find in all of this is that the Reform voters are digging their own graves. They will fully deserve the suffering that comes their way when they get what they voted for. It's just a shame that it will impact so badly on others who didn't vote for them but don't have any way of getting out.

Wishitsnows · 08/05/2026 01:20

@UtterlyExhaustedPigeon they are really fair points. Thanks for responding with a genuine view. I wasn’t clear which way I was to assume the shit show would be!

JustAnotherWhinger · 08/05/2026 01:22

I think winning big may actually scupper Reforms chances come the GE if they run councils all over like they have the one near us.

It’s been an absolute clusterfuck and people are very very unhappy as they simply cannot deliver half the shit they promised as it was very unrealistic. If they rolls out countrywide there will be a lot of pissed off people in a few years come GE time

soddingspiderseason · 08/05/2026 01:23

If Reform do win lots of seats, the only upside is that people will experience just how utterly awful they are a few years before the next general election. Whatever they touch turns to shit frankly.

Be careful what you ask for. Like Brexit.
I say for the moment stick with what we know.
There's enough going on ATM.

PurpleNightingale · 08/05/2026 01:26

It looks like Conservative and Greens will be a landslide for ours. But all results still pending.

Senescence · 08/05/2026 01:27

Clearly a significant proportion of the electorate are rather slow learners. It seems 10 years to reflect on the idiocy of 2016 isn’t enough for some of those who are slower on the uptake.

Aloealoealoe45 · 08/05/2026 01:27

Holy shit.

People really are that stupid.

Council Elections
OneTealShaker · 08/05/2026 01:28

Total wishful thinking to think that Reform’s council performance is going to have any bearing on their chances in the GE.

Whether and you like it or not this is a vote on national matters. Unless Labour and Tories change their tune and decide to change tact on immigration, taxation, the economy etc, Reform is where public opinion is at. And we all know that Labour and Tories are the parties of mass immigration, highest taxes, tanking economy and running the country into the ground. So why would they change tact.

Yes, but as someone who is already living under a shitshow of a Reform council, I have realised that the people who voted for them don't actually blame them for anything - they have no concept of what the local council is responsible for and what the government in Westminster is responsible for, so everything shit that happens locally still gets blamed on Labour anyway.
