Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

C-vit. There was a Ribena that was very similar. Both good but now 'replaced' by some shite with aspartame in it.

Phinneas Fogg snacks like Pains Perdus.

Sorry about your drink.

Oh gosh were they the little garlic bread disc things that your Mum would bring out as nibbles for the "adults" - oh wow what a memory! Why do they always attack us on the snack front, so unreasonable.

Fuse bars. Why did they get rid of them???

Cantyouseethishorselovesme · 04/05/2026 13:50

Potato Puffs

Katemax82 · 04/05/2026 13:50

My Sainsbury's stopped selling Florentines in their bakery, I had one every time I went.
Sainsbury's fragrant Thai base, I used it to make pork mince Thai style which my 7 year old loved as it wasn't too spicy.
Lidl steak seasoning
Asda wholegrain mustard mayo

Heinz did a chocolate pudding in a tin in the early 2000s, possibly into the 2010s? I often crave it with custard. The other microwave chocolate puddings available these days just don’t taste the same.

Aliflowers · 04/05/2026 13:51

Ovaltine bars. Think I last had one in the eighties. Was thrilled to discover Milo bars are really similar and stock up if I’m ever in Asia for work

I can no longer find their budget cheesecake 😢 With Greek yoghurt and frozen fruit, I could get 4 desserts out of that! And it was 😋

Whenever there is a thread like this I go straight to pining for ready salted potato triangles. Think last had them about 20 years ago then they just disappeared. And original recipe original lucozade. They ruined it about 10 years ago.

Secret chocolate bar. There was a petition going at some point, but to no avail.

I second Puff crisps and potato triangles. They were superior snacks that I still think about!

BleedinglyObvious · 04/05/2026 13:54

Lucozade was wonderful when it was in glass bottles with a cellophane wrapper.

ThirdStorm · 04/05/2026 13:54

Coconut boost.

afaloren · 04/05/2026 13:55

I loved 3-D Doritos.

Aliflowers · 04/05/2026 13:56

Also Secret chocolate bars. And lemon cornetto’s (though have managed to get them in Spain occasionally)

Agree - they’re syrup sponge in the tin as well! God I miss them.

I'm really sorry, it did occur to be after posting that there would be other people left pining for their long lost foods, I should have thought that through!

Agh sometimes it's the shape of the snack that hits different too - like a square or a chipstick doesn't cut it!! Oh they've defo changed the drinks recipes for sure. Grrr.

I loved those!

Fedupsequin · 04/05/2026 13:57

I third potato puffs! Also Mars Delights, Chicago Town lasagne that was chilli con carne mince and had nachos on the top and Asda used to sell (it wasnt Asda branded but I can’t remember the brand) Thai noodles in the freezer section in foil bags that were absolutely delicious!
