Is using an electric saw at 8.30am on Saturday unreasonable?

Using an electric saw at 8:30am in the morning on a Saturday should be illegal. Our neighbours have work men in the garden since 8am this morning and I’m trying to have a peaceful lie in after a hard week at work and a hot nights sleep 🥵

WHY ARE PEOPLE LIKE THIS

I wouldn’t do that but Saturday is a working day for many people. Builders generally start quite early and on Saturdays might finish at lunch. Also they might want to work while it’s cooler.
Still bloody annoying for you though.

familyicons · 20/06/2026 08:48

Any time past 8 o'clock is okay

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 20/06/2026 08:48

8:30 on a Saturday is fine.

nameoftheday · 20/06/2026 08:49

Most local authorities allow Saturday working from 8am-1pm, but none on a Sunday or bank holiday

DeltaVariant · 20/06/2026 08:49

Yeah that’s fine.

Daisydoesnt · 20/06/2026 08:50

8.30 on a Saturday is fine in my book.

RampantIvy · 20/06/2026 08:51

I wouldn't find it a problem. I can't sleep that late any more these days.

GordanoServices · 20/06/2026 08:52

It’s annoying but legal.

Anewuser · 20/06/2026 08:53

I don’t sleep past six any morning but I would find that noise bloody annoying. Nothing you can do though as it’s legal.

i hate the angle grinding noise at all time.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 20/06/2026 08:55

I think it should be 9am.

It's ok, a bit annoying, our neighbours are having work done in the garden too, builders arrived about 7.45 truck woke me. I did wonder if it would bother anyone. Are we neighbours @GimmieABreakOr3 🤔 😁

TulipCat · 20/06/2026 09:00

I can understand it being irritating for you on this occasion OP, but presumably they're only doing it to get the work finished and it's not every Saturday. It's just part of living in a built up area. The 8am-1pm rule for workmen seems like a fair balance in general.

You think it should be 9am, but someone else will think 10am, or others will have been up for a while and would prefer 7am - 12pm. There is no pleasing everyone for stuff like this.

Yes it's reasonable.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 20/06/2026 09:02

I understand they’re trying to get work done early maybe due to heat, however we are also not sleeping well due to heat, lol. And we’ve had long work week. They also sent a message to the group chat after the work started, so no notice at all. I wish people were just that little bit more considerate. Perhaps I’ll book a digger for 7:45am next Sunday.

Empty flat next to us being renovated to sell. Plasterers arrived 6.45 on a Sat and clanged buckets, shouted up and down through the window and put their radio on. I banged on door and asked them to give it a rest. The youngster apologised, the older twat developed attitude. I've brought up grandsons, my attitude trumped his.

HappiestSleeping · 20/06/2026 09:24

Where I used to live, the neighbours would bang on the wall on a Saturday morning. It was so loud, I could hear it over the noise of my drill.

user1476613140 · 20/06/2026 09:26

Perfectly fine. This is still a working day for many people.

pilates · 20/06/2026 09:28

I would be fine with it as a one off we all need to have work done. Have a lunchtime nap.

Chlorpool · 20/06/2026 09:30

@GimmieABreakOr3 you live on a small island, we're all crowded together.
If you haven't got the money to live in a field then some noise is inevitable.

LBFseBrom · 20/06/2026 09:30

Yes, it is far too early.

completelylostagain · 20/06/2026 09:37

No it’s not unreasonable.

Moaning about everyday things is far more unreasonable and must make people so miserable.

Exactly, so maybe people could be just that little bit more considerate and this “tiny little island” could be a much better place!

Any time after 0800 is acceptable at a weekend.
