Getting HM the Queen to celebrate my parents' anniversary

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 25/07/2022 22:55

Has anyone succeeded in getting a royal letter/card celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary?

My mother would love this (and really deserves it!) but I can't seem to get a response from:
'Apply for a Wedding Anniversary Message' on the (worryingly fake sounding) apply.royal.uk/Apply/StartWeddingAnniversaryApplication.jsp

Perhaps such a thing does not exist.

My brother & sister in law arranged the one for my parents last year so it does exist. I don't know which site they used but I think they could only apply close to the actual date.

FiveShelties · 25/07/2022 23:04

Yes I did this for my parents' anniversary.

Katyaadlerscoat · 25/07/2022 23:09

I did it for my parents' 60th and 65th anniversaries.

I did this for my parents' 60th wedding anniversary three years ago.

All you do is send a copy of their marriage certificate plus a completed form to Buckingham Palace. I'm not sure if your link is correct. I googled and got the one I used, it had a list of FAQs at the end.

You can get a copy of the certificate for about £10.

You need to do this within three weeks of the anniversary date.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 25/07/2022 23:09

Yes someone in the family did it for my mum and dad. No idea how though.

I did it years ago for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. East to set up, filled out a form online, don’t even remember sending their wedding certificate but I suppose I just have. Best part was I got a letter with the ER postmark & and fancy Buckingham Palace stationary confirming the arrangements and what to do if it was ‘no longer required’. My (newly started, pretty young) postman was buzzing delivering it thinking I was getting an honour 😄

No idea what happened to the card my grandparents got but I still have my fancy BP letter.

CountessOfSponheim · 26/07/2022 00:37

I did it years ago for DH's grandparents although I don't remember precisely how. I don't think I got any particular acknowledgement but the telemessage card was delivered bang on schedule.

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/07/2022 00:39

How long does it take to come through? I didn't know you could do this and my parents' 60th anniversary is on 4th August.

LilyMarshall · 26/07/2022 00:49

reading that, do you have to apply for someone to get a birthday card at 100? I always assumed it was automatic!

constantindigestion · 26/07/2022 00:56

It does exist as my great grandparents received a telegram from the queen on their 60th wedding anniversary. That was a long time ago though so not sure how it works

BarbaraofSeville · 26/07/2022 06:49

Jane Garvey did it for her parents. She talked about it on her (excellent) Fortunately with Fi and Jane podcast.

Maybe she's inadvertently raised awareness and they're a bit swamped?

SuziLikeSuziQ · 26/07/2022 06:58

Yes, someone did this for my grandparents' 70th anniversary. They kept the card on the mantle until they died. I'm not sure who has it now, but presumably someone does!

Ragwort · 26/07/2022 07:03

Yes, I did it last year, very straightforward and arrives exactly on the right day - the Postman actually knocked on the door as he was so excited to deliver a card from the Palace !
I assume you have to do the same for a 100th birthday.
Harriet - I am sure you could try applying immediately in time for the 4th August.

Londonnight · 26/07/2022 07:24

I did it for my parents 60th anniversary. Very straight forward. I didn't have to supply wedding certificate.

TeenDivided · 26/07/2022 07:55

Dontlickthetrolley · 25/07/2022 23:10

That's the one.
You can apply online from up to 5 weeks in advance. You have to upload a picture of the marriage certificate.
It's very easy, and my DPs are eagerly awaiting theirs next month. Grin

When my PILs got theirs in 2003, it was sent special delivery by 9am so they had an early morning knock on the door.

TeenDivided · 26/07/2022 07:57

(And it's free).

BooksAndHooks · 26/07/2022 08:00

My Grandparents got one, it had to be delivered to the address they will be at on the day. They were staying abroad for a family wedding so it was delivered there.

Roselilly36 · 26/07/2022 08:04

I did this for a relation of mine, easy to do, the informant also gets a letter from Buckingham Palace. The card is sent special delivery. My relatives were absolutely thrilled, it made their day extra special.

Crumpetsandpancakes · 26/07/2022 08:05

I did it for my parents. I didn't have a copy of their marriage certificate so had to get that first, then just applied online. You can't do it very far in advance though.

OOAOML · 26/07/2022 08:21

I did this last year via online application. Didn't have their wedding certificate so had to put in the details (names, date and town) and the verification came through pretty much straight away). Greeting was free but my sister and I bought them the commemorative frame that was on offer.

I think when I did it you couldn't apply until 3 weeks before (it was longer if you were sending in a cert) do I had the date marked in my diary after researching it all in advance. There were warnings about timescales due to covid but the card turned up on the day.

TeenDivided · 26/07/2022 08:27

Definitely 5 weeks before maximum online right now, as I only applied this month.

gogohmm · 26/07/2022 08:34

Anniversaries
You can get a message for a couple’s:
• 60th (diamond) anniversary
• 65th anniversary

• anniversary each year following their 70th
You can apply:
• no earlier than 5 weeks before the anniversary date if you apply online, or 3 weeks before if you apply by post

You’ll need to send a copy of your marriage certificate when you apply.

Birthday ones are automatic if they receive state pension

Roselilly36 · 26/07/2022 09:30

I didn’t have a copy of the marriage certificate, the person in the office looked up the info and confirmed it on FreeBMD website.
