How have you found takeaways?

Don’t worry don’t worry I’m being good! But we have had a takeaway and games night booked in with friends for ages and I am wondering about choices? Don’t want to experience side effects, particularly in somebody else’s house!

So for the likes of Chinese and Indian takeaways, have you had to completely alter your choice or just had less of what you would have enjoyed prior to WLIs?

The types of main dish that I would choose remained the same or pretty similar, but I would just not have the rice, breads, poppadoms, etc and in general eat a very reduced portion. I would also probably choose the lighter sauces rather than anything oily and heavy.

Flowersdie · 06/05/2026 12:48

I didn’t change what I ate at all. Just less of it

ButterYellowFlowers · 06/05/2026 12:49

Go for something like Thai and order a papaya salad or a prawn green curry with jasmine rice. Relatively light and not full of excessive fat or calories.

ButterYellowFlowers · 06/05/2026 12:51

If I had to get Chinese or Indian I’d get egg fried rice and something stir fried or plain rice with chicken tikka (not masala, just the tikka) or dal.

PearlsTeapot · 06/05/2026 13:22

I can eat everything! Just much less of it. I don’t waste my reduced stomach space on bread rice or noodles now though. I just eat the meat! Enjoy yourself.

Flower1989999 · 06/05/2026 13:30

Hi. I lost 7 stone on MJ between Jan 25 and now and have been maintaining at 10 stone for several months. Food wise I cut nothing out just had less bad stuff and/or smaller portions. Its about moderation not avoiding everything.

Soooooooverthisnow · 06/05/2026 14:53

The only think I actually enjoy now is chicken kebab wrap. So wrap, meat and salad.

Overtheatlantic · 06/05/2026 14:57

The only thing I’ve had to avoid is anything with a rich sauce, so my beloved fish pie and beef stroganoff are out. Chili is fine, anything else is fine but in small amounts. I can still eat a slice of cake though! 🥴

Ah this is a pretty good shout if we order Indian actually! I just don’t want to stand out by not having a curry if you know what I mean but this would be a good alternative!

I’ve not experienced any gastro side effects. Just less hunger. So I’d make sure to not over order.

This is good to know thank you. This is what I’m most interested to hear. I’m only on week two but kind of nervous to try anything overly fatty in case of side effects…

Chicken shish kebab, and I don’t eat the bun, and I put seriously good light mayo with it. My pharmacist recommended it and it’s meant I can have an occasional takeout with the family. I’d never had one before and they are nice!

Semanasanta · 06/05/2026 17:07

Id have tandoori grill ,no breads or rice and chips etc.,and not much of it, I couldn't stomach Chinese though!

MoneyJo · 06/05/2026 19:32

So far we have had kebabs where I just had meat and veg and could only eat half of it, and curry where I had a meat curry and a veg side and again couldn't eat it all.
No chips, rice, bread - just the tasty stuff.

tobee · 06/05/2026 19:42

I ate in a Chinese restaurant over Chinese New Year. It was fine, I just ate less. I didn’t even worry about calorie counting (I haven’t calorie counted at all though) because it was a rare event.

Lovetheants · 06/05/2026 19:57

I've had an occasional takeaway. I've opted for prawns on most occasions and, like with everything else, been content with a smaller portion (not tiny, just regular) rather than eating and eating until I can't fit anything else in!

I've lost over 5 stone, I'm still only on 5mg
and, whilst making healthy choices the majority of the time, still enjoy occasional treats without side effects.

pollydollydoo · 06/05/2026 20:05

I don’t have any side effects from what I eat, but my choices on what I eat have changed just because I’m less bothered/can’t eat as much.

So if we get Thai food, I just have Thai red prawn curry, but will eat it like a soup rather than with loads of rice. Indian might be tandoori chicken with salad or a 1/4 portion of tikka masala with 1/4 naan. If we get a junk food takeaway like KCF, I’ll get 2 corn on a cob and a mini wrap. Likewise with McDonald’s I won’t bother with chips or a McFlurry as I just can’t fit it all in.

thinkofsomethingdifferent · 06/05/2026 20:36

Not a takeaway but I got an ASDA microwave Chicken Tikka masala. I was day two following my first 5mg jab and I was in bed for 4 days. Second jab this week and I’ve been for a Toby Carvery which is currently laying very heavy.

CheeryOchreCat · 06/05/2026 20:57

Haven’t changed my order but just eat less of it. I’ve always liked tomato-based sauces though rather than anything too creamy, if ordering Indian. Means we end up with leftovers for the next day’s lunch too when you add in rice and bread.

ShrankLastWinter · 06/05/2026 21:59

I concentrate on tandoori chicken/meat and vegetables. But I also try a little bit of anything else I fancy. I find on MJ I’m satisfied with just a taste of anything I feel like, which is incredibly liberating.

worldsgonemadnow · 07/05/2026 21:42

Have you had a negative GI response to any foods up until now? If not,I'd say just go for it. If you have, maybe avoid that type of food.

I'm almost 10 months in and as yet no type of food has made me ill in any way. I think its more common than folk think.

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 07/05/2026 21:48

Depends on how your react. Normally for me I'd eat as normal but less. Unfortunately a year in I'd have to be extremely careful..

I'm going out for dinner with friends tomorrow and dreading it. I will prepair by eating practically nothing all day. I'm not confident I can manage early dinner and then a lift share and still being out 4 hours later.

It's totally crap. Literally! 🤣

myyoungerself · 07/05/2026 22:04

Haven’t had a macdonalds burger (beyond rare breakfast in 6 months)
My brother faces gallbladder pain removal on same weight loss medication whilst throwing up all of the time so what’s works for one person but may not another.

I am able to be active everyday except my brother. I don’t throw up everyday but it is how two people of the same family can have q different experience,

Nope no reaction to anything yet but I’m only on week 2 so have t really tested everything although I have had a bit of spice and been fine.

thanks for your help
