What to wear to Wimbledon in your mid fifties

I’m looking for suggestions of what to wear to Wimbledon, I’m trying to move away from my previous few summer’s uniform of midi dresses.
I am mid 50’s, need petite range and want to look as nice as I can as it’s a special day for my DH and I.

Have a look at odd muse

TheFarriersDaughter · 13/06/2026 04:13

I can’t think of anything nicer than a dress - whatever length, for long hours of sitting in warm weather. Much nicer than most summer trousers.

I like this very much:

Or this, if you prefer a different shape:

And this is excellent:

(I haven’t bought from this brand but the clothes seem well designed, in nice fabrics. You could probably find good separates here too, if you’d really prefer them.)

Those are all great suggestions. I will just add this from Reiss, in their petite range.

Have you been to Wimbledon before?
You might need to factor in practicalities like comfy footwear, a hat for sun protection and something to throw over shoulders/arms so you don’t get sunburn - or a Mac etc if it’s raining.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 13/06/2026 05:04

It will depend on the weather, might be lashing with rain or roasting. It was both 2 years ago when I was lucky to be there twice in the same week.
Comfortable shoes are essential whatever you decide on.
Have a great time.

Divebar2021 · 13/06/2026 05:53

We’re going to need some more information. Where do you normally shop? What is your preferred style? What court are you on ? Last year I was on court 1 quite low down and nearly fried but my friends were high up and shaded.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 13/06/2026 08:49

A dress is the perfect thing to wear though, with flat shoes.

Have a look at Wolf and Badger, they have lots of styles that are a bit dressier. Or Rico.

I'd wear a cotton sundress with a cardigan of some description and either coloured trainers or sparkly fit flops depending on the weather

RampantIvy · 13/06/2026 08:57

I would wear a dress with flat sandals in warm weather or other weather appropriate clothing according to the weather.

I hate being uncomfortable by wearing weather inappropriate clothing. There is no dress code for Wimbledon so I would always wear something that is comfortable and practical. All eyes will be on the tennis players, not me.

I would still want to make an effort though. I'm not a total scruff 😁

Sulgari · 13/06/2026 09:22

These Reiss wide leg trousers are lovely and would be a change from a dress

this blouse would go, and keep your shoulders protected should it be sunny

And this whole look is also very on point, looks special without being OTT

Sulgari · 13/06/2026 09:31

And a nice hooded trench coat for inclement weather!

TheyGrewUp · 13/06/2026 09:43

Unless you are in the debenture lounge, you can wear whatever you want. Wumbledon is no longer smart. Smart casual trousers, nice top, nice jersy or cardigan, comfy shoes, sunglasses, hat. Tote bag with room for your jersey, water bottle, sun cream, sunglasses, hat and waterproof.

Freda69 · 13/06/2026 09:46

Comfortable shoes are top priority and maybe a sunhat or a plastic poncho, depending on the weather. You could get soaked or sunburnt.

BridgetJonesV2 · 13/06/2026 09:54

I first went as a teenager and there seemed to be quite a dress code at that time, but in recent years I'd say it's pretty much anything goes. I'd go for some wide leg trousers with a nice top and a rain coat!

TheFarriersDaughter · 13/06/2026 09:55

The OP knows all that, @TheyGrewUp - she’s not 12!

She’s said it will be a special day with her husband (maybe nothing to do with tennis) and wants some new ideas of what to wear.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/06/2026 09:57

Always worn some sort of dress, comfy. Don’t forget a hat! I once had to dash into H&M
centre court (Wimbledon) last minute to buy a wide brimmed hat on the morning of the day I was off to the tennis.

Miranda65 · 13/06/2026 10:08

Are you on a show court (ie one with a roof)? It makes a huge difference, because for outside courts you need practicality, layers and a roomy bag.
For Centre or Number One, you can be a bit more dressed up, but do factor in the 15 minute walk to/from the Tube station.
Comfortable shoes, always.
Most people are not particularly dressed up (unless the corporates, and they are buried away) - if anything, don't overdress, or you will just look foolish.
It's a long day, if you arrive for gates opening, which I recommend - you could easily be there for 9 or 10 hours so comfort needs to be the absolute top priority.

oliviaAustin · 13/06/2026 10:09

It’s just a sporting event. Most people dress for the weather not to look glamorous

TheFarriersDaughter · 13/06/2026 10:13

Oh, for goodness sake!

Sulgari · 13/06/2026 10:14

Honestly, such dismal answers! The @ForBusyOliveBear clearly explained why she wants to make an effort and asked for ideas, not all this oh just be comfy and no one cares, etc

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 13/06/2026 10:27

I’d be tempted to choose well-cut wide-legged trousers, and a silk shirt. Then you can choose trainers or comfy sandals depending on the weather - so flexibility right up to the day . Cashmere cardi or wrap to go over the top. Thin but effective rain jacket. Good sunglasses and a visor or cap (NOT wide-brimmed hat if you Intend to wear it during play)

then you need a roomy but slouchy bag to put wrap, rain jacket etc in when not needed. Slouchy because it will have to go at your feet or on your lap so you don’t want sharp corners

LeedsLoiner · 13/06/2026 10:37

Depends on whether you’re playing in the singles or doubles?
Otherwise wear what you like, unless you’re in the Royal Box no one else cares….

MustardBear · 13/06/2026 10:43

I’ve been on Centre Court a few times (including last year for the final) and it depends where you’re sitting and the weather, cos if it’s sunny and you’re not under the overhang of the roof it can be brutally hot.
So definitely factor that in, and take a straw hat.
For dresses, Nobody’s Child do a good petite range.
Wear decent shoes, you’ll do a lot of walking!

A few NC petite dresses here:
(edit - sorry, they are all midi dresses, but they are bloody practical if it’s a scorcher!)
