Is this how Fitflops fit, or are my feet just weird?!

How should Fitflop sandals feel underfoot?

I've just had a pair of their hiking sandals (Neo-D-Hyker) arrive and I love them.

But there is a lump under my heels, sort of to the front of the heels, behind the arches. It feels a bit weird but I'm not sure if it's just because I'm not used to them? Or is this a sign that they don't work for my feet? The length and width are perfect.

Thank you 😊

I'm the same with Birkenstocks. The lumps underfoot feel very odd. But from what I have read, the sole moulds with the shape of your foot. Perhaps it is the same with Fitflops?

ArtificialCactus · 28/05/2026 14:01

Yes, that's what worries me - I've never been able to wear Birkenstocks, which is a shame because I love the look of them!

I’m wearing my Fitflop sandals now. I think the lump you’re referring to is the arch support. It feels odd at first but you get used to it.

BalticTellin · 28/05/2026 14:17

If they aren't comfortable then those particular sandals don't work for your feet.

I love Fitflops and have several pairs, but they have a range of different footbeds and while most work for me, some don't.

So it doesn't mean Fitflops aren't right for you, it just means that particular footbed isn't. The Neo D Hyker footbed is 'neodynamic'. I'm currently wearing F Mode Go sandals which have microwobbleboard footbeds (very comfy). You can check the footbed details on the website.

(I can't wear Birkenstocks because of the 'lumps', I have tried but they do not work for me.)

PigglyWiggle · 28/05/2026 14:18

I also cannot wear Birkenstocks due to the lumps - had no idea other people experienced this issue

TorturedParentsDepartment · 28/05/2026 15:02

I can't wear Nike trainers because their idea where arch support should fit and my feet's ideas differ. Fitflops again I found the same issue with - but some other shoes work well on my feet. I guess we're all different. I've tried to push on through it in the hope of things moulding in the past and it's only ended well for the blister plaster industry so I've learnt that lesson now.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/05/2026 15:38

I can't wear Birkenstocks either - but Fitflops are my go to as they seem to fit to my feet perfectly

Hoppinggreen · 28/05/2026 15:40

I can't get on with fitflops unfortunately
The arch support bit pushes my feet up so the top of the shoes is too tight/rubs
I do have a high arch anyway though

ArtificialCactus · 28/05/2026 17:56

Thank you everyone for your input. I think I will send them back, £95 is too much to waste if my feet don't like them!

Isn’t the whole point that they force your legs into a different alignment to make you burn more calories while you walk or something?

PurpleCoo · 28/05/2026 22:58

I have never worn fit flops, but intrigued by all the Birkenstock comments. I love mine, and the 'bumps' and 'valleys' just align perfectly with my feet and offer great support. I always think they are so perfectly designed to the shape of the human foot!

People who struggle, have you got flat feet/low arches? I have just been staring at my foot in my Birkenstock sandal trying to figure out where would be a problem

OtterandaRock · 28/05/2026 23:22

I do not have high arches and my 3 pairs of Birkenstocks, each a different style, are comfortable.

TiredMagpie · 29/05/2026 00:04

I have tried various styles of FitFlops and none were comfortable. I have high arches and the arch support is too high and pushes my feet upward in an uncomfortable, bent shape.

( I also find Birkenstocks unbearable to wear, like walking on a hard, bumpy surface!)

rosyvalentine · 29/05/2026 00:50

For all those who say they can’t wear Birkenstocks, try the soft footbed version! I can’t tolerate the normal ones either, but the soft footbed ones are super comfortable. I find all of my FitFlops comfortable, but I don’t have that style of sandal that the OP mentions.

They were uncomfortable when I had high arches, and uncomfortable when they dropped (due to weight) and I had flat feet. No idea what my feet are playing at.

I also seem to have funny shaped ears - I can't wear any of the earbud style earphones apart from the more expensive ones with silicone tips.

However my Gumbies flip flops are the most comfortable shoes I own - and have lasted forever.

I can't wear Berkenstocks because I have what's apparently called "Roman" feet, so my second and third toes are the same length as the big toe.

So this means that the third toe sticks out a lot more than the fourth, which means I typically need to wear a size up from what my big toe measures at. I have to have size 9/43 (which is a whole other world of pain when it come to shoe buying). My feet are also very narrow 😖

If I try a size 8 in Berkies, that stupid third toe sits on the outer rim. Ouch. If I try size 9, the foot bed proportions are too big to properly fit. And I think my feet being narrow also throw them off.

All if you that sound like you have normal feet are so lucky 😂

OMG! I’ve never heard of Roman feet. Just looked it up and I have Roman feet! Who knew! I can’t wear Birkenstocks but can wear some Fitflops.

Piggywaspushed · 29/05/2026 19:24

I have Roman Feet too! So does Beckham!

On my left foot my second toe is 1 cm longer than my big toe...

Piggywaspushed · 29/05/2026 19:25

Oh no, juts looked it up. I have Greek Feet!!

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 29/05/2026 19:38

No! I have biracial feet! My left foot is Egyptian, and my right is Greek! I think!

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 29/05/2026 19:39

Wow, it changes when I stand up…!

Piggywaspushed · 29/05/2026 19:51

My left foot is definitely more Greek than my right foot.

Laiste · 29/05/2026 20:17

Greek feet here and can wear berkies and fit flops

Laiste · 29/05/2026 20:19

With birkenstocks you have to wear them in. An hour or so around the house and then a break.

Eventually the footbed fits your feet and it is exactly as they say - like standing on wet sand. Foot supported v well. More comfy than bare feet and i always used to be a bare foot around the house person !

PositivityVibes · 29/05/2026 20:25

Well you learn something everyday, apparently I have a Germanic foot!

My feet love Birkenstocks but I’ve never actually had any fit flops
