What to wear on ‘evenings in’ on a family villa holiday?

We have a one-week holiday planned with our adult kids and their other halves in Greece, late June, and I’m getting my wardrobe/ packaging thought out.

Daytimes are obviously straightforward. I’ve got plenty of summer dresses to wear in the evenings if we’re going out to a restaurant.

I’m just wondering what to wear for the evenings when we stay at the villa and bbq. I’ll obviously shower and wash/dry my hair but I can’t think I’m going to want to put on make up, a strapless bra and a sundress. But shortie PJs will a bit TOO casual!

What to wear? What does everyone else do?

I would wear something long, loose and floaty, with sleeves as mozzies love me!

Rhaidimiddim · 25/05/2026 00:16

Shorts and a t-shirt

Pyjamas? Genuinely, you’re just relaxing at what is your home.

I wear long t shirt dresses or playsuits all with a soft Skims bra/crop top and big comfy knickers!

I’d go for just casual stuff if you’re not going out - whatever you’re comfortable in. Maybe some t-shirt dresses or shorts.
I absolutely wouldn’t be all dolled up every night if I was in the villa!

I'd float around in one of these kimono tops from Sahara (the £50 ones) - over the top of a plainish t-shirt & trouser combo. Instant elevation of a basic outfit and v glam! Search results: 25 results for "kimono" – Sahara

Hi do you find skims true to size?

minnowonthesay · 25/05/2026 01:39

The Skims bralette comes up small but according to the sales lady in Harrods that’s so it gives you a bra like lift, if you’re buying it for comfort, she suggested sizing up, so I did.

Which bralette do you have?

The seamless sculpt

@PrimeSeason were you originally thinking to dress up?

LapinR0se · 25/05/2026 07:42

On villa holidays I shower and then put on a summer dress every evening. Feels so much nicer than just shorts & tshirt. I don’t bother with makeup unless we go out

MJagain · 25/05/2026 07:50

I’d wear linen trousers and a clean t shirt / loose shirt. Not smart ones - the crinkled floaty ones. And lots of insect repellent

Pendapala · 25/05/2026 07:56

We visit DBIL and DML at their summer places, so lots of family of various ages around. I just wear a bikini and maybe a cover up (long shirt or kaftan) and have one washed black cotton maxi dress with short sleeves which I wear with no underwear should formal dressing be required. I’m in and out of the pool all the time and become very louche, as does everyone else.

FlippantlyShe · 25/05/2026 07:57

What would you wear at home on a hot evening?

EffortlesslyDedicated · 25/05/2026 08:15

The sort of summer dresses that don't need a strapless bra, cap sleeved or teeshirt style. Or shorts and a tee shirt. But I go very casual on holiday too, less make-up than at home etc.

WonderingWanda · 25/05/2026 09:36

I have to say we always go out for dinner but I would probably wear the same sort of things. Long floaty dresses, baggy linen trousers and something like a vest top. Or shorts / skirt and a top. All worn with flip flops or sandals.

Ooh I love those!

ordered!

Next have some nice casual t-shirt material dresses, short sleeve or sleeveless, I always find a dress cooler on holiday, failing that shorts and a vest/t-shirt

TheCurious0range · 25/05/2026 11:02

Like this, very comfy no need for strapless bra

100% I would be in my pyjamas, as I was during most of our time in an apartment in Mauritius!

mynameiscalypso · 25/05/2026 12:03

We have similar holidays and I like getting a little bit dressed up, even if we’re at home for the evening. It just feels a bit more special. I also get bitten a lot so prefer long skirts or linen trousers with a linen shirt or something like that.

Tenniswhites · 25/05/2026 14:06

I have a couple of those kimonos-love them.

For an evening where we cba to go
out to dinner, I put on something floaty and cool. After a day on the beach, there is no better feeling than a cool shower, a comfy dress (no bra) and a glass of wine watching the sun go down.

We go away in 2 wks-can’t wait!
