Tote bag for teenager on holiday

I'm looking for a beach compatible tote bag for my 15 year old DD, for summer holiday, sturdy enough for heavier things like books and big water bottle. Budget only about £30 as it's a birthday present idea for someone else to give her, but they want a steer on style. Anyone's daughter got anything suitable you could share? I'm thinking something more canvas / sturdy but a bag not a basket style. This is ok but might be too 'floppy' https://www.fatface.com/style/su850912/w79571

Is she a fan of anything? There’s usually tote bags available as merch which are very popular with teenagers; in fact that’s the majority of totes I see girls carrying.

Hmm, she's obsessed with rowing, that might be an avenue. Otherwise not really. But I'm thinking something more tough than a floppy cotton shopper - are those really done as merch?

I think that's got serious mum vibes! I wouldn't buy anything that doesn't zip up because if it falls over on a beach everything will be covered in sand.
A dry bag might be more useful if she's into rowing.

Obviously I don't know your daughter, but no 15 year old I know would like that bag - it's too bright and the pattern is too much.

Side note, white / light canvas bags like that tend to get dirty really quickly especially when travelling with them because they're on the floor a lot so dark colours are better.

Where does she usually like top shop for clothes? Is she into any sports brands? Look there and see if they do tote bags.

Haha all very good points. She has a dry bag so wants something a bit more 'girly'.

Also great points, thank you! Clotheswise, she does actually like Fatface etc (she's not very cool!) but otherwise it's the usual H&M, Mango etc... I think everyone's right though - a drab colour with a zip!

I'm not suggesting you shop there or purchase if you are an objector, but if you look at sites like Temu and Shein for summer tote bags you will get lots of ideas. Those sites are more or less aimed at a younger demographic so it will show what's "in" at the moment. Amazon also have a huge range of totes for Summer within your budget.

Tk maxx have some nice ones online, the Elle ones are nice so worth a look.

Applepe · 14/05/2026 11:18

https://share.google/eSF8V4qz1RHxlEIfx saw this in Home Bargains!

EverythingGolden · 14/05/2026 11:23

They are very sensitive to mum vibes, yet they all have longchamp which up until recently I associated with my 80 year old step mother. Maybe a longchamp dupe? I would avoid patterns unless something you are sure about.

My DD's are 18 & 15.
My experience wioth this is no matter how much effort you put into this you are likely to buy the "wrong bag".

Ask her what she wants, or go shopping together.

Step away from the Fatface immediately!

Primark has stuff like that, or sports direct.

Some nice options here and in other suggestions (sorry I can't reply to all). They do seem to like the longchamp dupes but they aren't exactly beachy. In my defence some of her favourite clothes include long boho maxi skirt from Fatface, Joe Browns embroidered trousers and an Aspiga (!) ditsy floral dress, though no doubt she wouldn't wear them in front of her schoolfriend where the Hollister vibe rules. The bag is for holidays with us, not friends. I covet the pineapple Home Bargains ones for myself :-)

Pesky girl wants 'surprise' presents and hates choosing specific things

I also covet thed Joules one. The Adidas options seem quite innocuous and likely to be properly useful for putting stuff in (can't be doing with flimsy handles that rip off etc)

@Donostiera straw/raffia totes seem to be "on trend" atm.

Possible ideas

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/05/2026 13:19

I bought one too and my DD's (15 & 18) think its maximum cringe.

i like it though.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/05/2026 13:20

well I got the Waitrose version which looks the same

Xiaoxiong · 14/05/2026 13:21

For £30 I'd get a basket bag from Accessorise that's sort of a dupe for the one from Loewe:

Lots of basket bags around for the summer!

sezane? Their canvas bags are lovely and come in about 10 colours so pick something she likes colour wise. The mini one is probably big enough for beach
