Please help with finding brightly coloured swim boxers for French pools for 8 year old son

I need help finding a pair of brightly coloured swim boxers that are suitable for French Swimming pools for my 8 year old son.

I do not want any shade of blue as they are not visible in the pool water in terms of safety. Every where I look has light blue which blends into the water. Marks, Asda, Hand M, Decathlon etc I don’t want to order from temu or shein.

Where we are going insists on the tight pairs. We were there last year. He also likes the wave pool and the brightly coloured ones are great to keep an eye on him.

Id love a red/orange/yellow pair. Could any point me in the right direction please? I’ve seen similar threads with savvy mumsnetters coming up trumps. Thanks a million

Just did a quick google and Amazon sell red ones, plus apparently Decathlon sell red Speedo ones.

ThreeStripeQueen · 30/05/2026 08:10

Funky trunks, Speedo, Arena. Most of the big swimming brands do bright coloured ones.

Thank you but the decathlon ones are out of stock! (I’m in Ireland!)

Thanks all, price is also a consideration, but the Amazon ones look like they would work. Thanks so much. I was really surprised at how the main shops are all still going with the light blues. Either that or they are black!

Have a great time!

Primark has loads of bright colours, just got my son some orange ones and I can always spot him in the pool. same with George at Asda.

Just an idea.

When my relatives in Australia had smallish children they would mark the children with, well they called in sun cream but I think it was zinc sticks.

So if you took a group of say 4 kids to the pool then you might mark them with a blue zinc cross and a pink circle.

I know you are not taking a group and it looks like you have got a solution but as an option to mark out your child so they can be seen.

The Decathlon bright rash vests/SPF t-shirts are also very useful for visibility and protect against the sun.

OP I’m in the same boat. I’ve just ordered some from H&M but unfortunately they are navy so quite boring. Dunnes have them up to age 9 but again in navy . I’ll put him in a very bright uv top so that will help.

unbelievable1 · 30/05/2026 09:43

Unfortunately they aren’t available for Ireland thank you though. The ones available to deliver in Ireland are all navy and blue!

Yes I was really surprised with Dunnes this year. I’m going to go with the Amazon ones. Thanks all. It was a harder task than I thought it was going to be.

I very recently got neon orange boys swim shorts from Next. I wish more people knew that neon orange/pink are the safest colours for kids to swim in!

Topbird29 · 30/05/2026 10:00

Last time I got bright boys swim shorts it was from next, with bright coloured rash vests from mountain warehouse.

FernwoodRydal · 30/05/2026 10:44

Have you tried Next? We have these ones, the orange ones might still be available in the right size? https://www.next.co.uk/style/su348143/e22836

unbelievable1 · 30/05/2026 10:56

Thank you but those ones won’t suit the French swimming pools! We saw staff asking people to change into the tighter style last year.
I have ordered from Amazon and got the mountain warehouse rash vest too. Thanks a million for all suggestions

They are called jammers if you want to do a search on something like vinted (my ASD son will only wear these !)

Not2identifying · 30/05/2026 12:22

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the French rules on tightness?

Pigriver · 30/05/2026 12:39

Primark had a range of bright ones but only in the bigger stores. I couldn't see them on click and collect.
My boys are not best pleased about the proposition of teeny trunks this year!

No idea. It’s a strange one isn’t it. My DH and DS were pulled up by the lifeguard last summer at the campsite we were staying at so we had to do an emergency shopping trip so I’m getting prepared for this year.

TotalBaloney · 30/05/2026 15:28

My 7 year old has some bright orange tight ones from Tesco.

Allegedly it’s a hygiene rule - men might wear the looser fitting shorts our all day, get them dirty and then transfer that dirt into the pool. Or forget they’ve got tissues or cigarettes in the pockets which then end up in the pool. We just take it to be one of the quirks of French culture.

CaptainBeefheartspal · 30/05/2026 15:45

Just go to a French Hypermarche when you get there. It’s a good excuse for a mooch.
