Hi

Really need help in loosing my mind on a certain corner of my hallway were doing it up and I've created some images of what it will look like when finished a d I'll post all photos of what it will look like when finished however it's the image with the coat hooks that I don't know what to put at the bottom as I have tried finding a console table or shoe bench but as it's only 50cm on the wall under the shopping bag I have to have a custom made one and there expensive and I just don't know what to put there?

My decor style is Cosy Cotswolds country with a refined elegant twist

OP, I’m slightly confused. Are these are all mood board pictures of style and feel you like?

Can you share a photo of the actual space.
also the photos are really quite different styles, the only consistency is the panelling.

We have a corner like that and have a slim basket we keep scarves and umbrellas in plus an ornamental doorstop. Does it need to be a table?

Yes and then I used Gemini to recreate my exact spaces but add the panniling and the ideas I had I can show you what it looks like now in these areas of it helps we are starting the panniling this weekend and adding new skirting and coving and then painting next week.

No it doesn't need to be a table I just want something that will fit in with the design ideas for the rest of the hallway and fit there

So the door and floor are conflicting with the feel you want and what the top of stairs delivers. The laminate floor and plastic door need to be proper timber.
you need a fuller width stripped door mat or and a hall runner/rug.

The coat rack and framed image stop to left of the door are Seaside not Cosy Cotswold country.

the framed image to the left of the door is also cluttering the space.
you need a shoe rack and small round stall.

Ok so now I'm confused a rustic oak coat hanger is country I'm not sure how that's seaside many Cotswolds house have similar and the bag is a Cotswolds bag that I have brought and my dog leads will go there.

The front door can't be changed as it's rented we have permission to add panniling but we can't change the front door I was going to paint a nice stone colour to match the theme and we are changing the flooring

Here's the images as you can see we have a lot of work to do to get it looking nice we are allowed to change the internal doors and banister which we were going for wooden glass panel doors as our hallway is very dark and we are getting an oak banister and we are putting it on the opposite side to where it is now

The coat rack wood needs to be warmer or and darker and probably chunkier/deeper.
what you have is more driftwood/grey and lightweight which is seaside.
just done you a ChatGPT version which is uploading. I would switch the picture at the top of the stairs for a mirror.

lighting, warm bulbs, patterned fabric shades, will be your biggest friend

At the top of the stairs it is a mirror it's just my partner hates looking at himself in mirrors but I really wanted a mirror there so I was going to add privacy film over the glass in an elderflower pattern.

I would love a console table near the door but the radiator is there and as it's no narrow I can't fit anything over it we tried a floating shelf but It did unfortunately get in the way.

So if I want to keep a horse photo ( which is of a shire horse in the Cotswolds) I need a warmer frame? And the left side of the door keep empty just my wellies? What about the right side I don't mind changing from a coat hanger if you think I should leave it? I already have an olive tree that I have for the top of the stairs and I love it at the top of the stairs not placed it yet till I've finished decoration.

Cotswold is about warm, honey tones, not cool tones. I like the panelling in yours, it’s the floor door and hooks that conflicted with your vibe and intent. You are close. Focus on warmth and texture.

I would use a small stool or welly rack to the right of the door. Or tall brolly stand. Or tiny unit for keys and things. Look on Marktplace

AltitudeCheck · 29/04/2026 14:57

Umbrella stand or just remove the wellies so both sides of the door are uncluttered!

MightyFlow · 29/04/2026 15:13

So you're just asking about what to put in the corner next to the front door? I wouldn't put anything - the area under the coat hooks is small, and why put furniture there which will obscure the decorative panelling? The panelling is enough of a feature.

The floor we are changing I'm not sure which wood tone were going for though, the runner we have now is getting changed to a warm beige herringbone design one and a matching door rug to fit that space. I am going to paint the front door to a similar colour to the one in the image I've attached.

So if I kept the coat hanger it would be an umbrella stand like a dark wicker one? Or do you think I should drop the coat hooks all together?

Here is the colour I'm painting the door I'm also allowed to change the letter box and handle to a antique gold

OP - I completely get your intent and your vision.
What era, style and location is this property? My concern is you are trying to make it something it isn't, I may be wrong.
I'm not sure painting a UPVC door is going to be successful.
As you are renting please ensure you have permission in writing, it isn't normal to do this level of work as a tenant.

That's ok yes I do have permission in writing I think the landlord is happy we're doing it up because he's never bothered doing it up and it doesn't feel like home to me so I'm trying to decorate it to look nice.

I think that corner is too small to put anything in. Also, you don't want coats there because of the way the front door opens. Just put the wellies and dog leads there.
Put coat pegs etc in the other corner. It will have the added advantage of hiding the pipework. Maybe a small stool as well, to sit on while you don your wellies.

MerryRobin · 29/04/2026 17:48

Ok I used chatGPT instead of Gemini like @Tortephant did earlier and this is what chatGPT came up with I said I wanted to keep my walls the same as I had done with Gemini and that I really want my horse portrait and explained what I wanted style wise and this is what chatGPT came up with which I think looks better , chatGPT removed my home sign and the wellies and put an umbrella stand in that corner and changed the doormat I think it actually looks nicer now then it did before and I think I'll go for a darker warmer wood for the mirror at the top of the stairs.

chatGPT said that the horse portrait should be my statement piece as that should be my statement wall because it's the first thing visitors see and that the farmhouse home sign was too in the way in that corner I should apparently let the lamps be the star and that I don't need anything in that left corner and that my floors needed to be darker wood more aged look to match the Cotswolds vibe and that herringbone flooring is better so I let chatGPT decide what I should do the only I said is I want to keep my horse portrait everything else is chatGPT I was surprised my coat hooks stayed but changed to darker wood

I've done another image where I let chatGPT style it and the only thing I said I wanted was my horse portrait which I've detailed in my reply above.

The pipes are actually going as the landlord is paying for a new boiler this year as we just had our gas safety inspection and while everything is fine the gas safety inspector said this boiler is over 15 years old and needs replacing and we're lucky it still works and thankfully he's agreed so we're getting new radiators and we were told they'll be no pipes on show which I'm thrilled about

I'm not convinced by the ChatGPT image. Is there really space for six hooks in that corner?
Is the landlord putting in electrics for the wall lights, too?

I'm getting renter friendly ones that are rechargeable that come with rechargeable bulbs and and yes there is enough space for 6 hooks 3 on each wall in that corner the wall right next to the front door is 45cm and where the bag is hung up on the other wall is 50cm
