Does anyone have or had this line on a thumbnail before please? I'm scared I'm due to see a dermatologist Monday but wanted to ask for opinion please.

Are you highly anxious i see you have also taken photos of marks on other body parts. I know a couple of people who have had these marks for years and its been absolutely nothing. Its very very rare for it to be anything serious.

Dizzydrizzy · 13/06/2026 13:19

It wouldn’t occur to me to see anyone about this. What’s worrying you in particular?

I am as saw my mum pass away from cancer at a young age so it scares me so badly and I feel sick but I've googled imaged it and it says it's probably from nail biting or trauma like blood under the nail. Thankyou so much for your reply I appreciate it so much xx
Yes I also have this mole type thing on my shoulder I had checked 3 years ago and it wasn't anything to worry about but it's scabbed now so think I may of caught it xx

I’ve got a similar one on my toenail. I photographed it and monitored it because it freaked me out when I read it could be a melanoma. Might be safer to get it checked.

I think thats very understandable why you are anxious after what happened with your mum try and distract yourself with nice things over the weekend and hopefully the dermatologist will be able to reassure you on Monday.

It could be cancer, although very likely to be not. A dermatologist should know whether further investigation is required.

As someone who is a chronic sufferer of Health Anxiety and also Medical PTSD due to number of health issues I had a couple years ago, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE STOP googling symptoms, it is the absolute worst thing you can do. I was told off by a doctor for this as it kept sending me spiralling out of control.
I also have lines down my nails, and have done for quite sometime, but I do suffer with contact dermatitis on my fingers. Just let the dermatologist do their job, but on the whole it more likely is that you've damaged your finger/nail bed and this can take months to grow out. Sending you a hug as I know first hand how debilitating health anxiety is ❤️

Aww bless your heart it's horrible isn't it suffering from health anxiety it scares me so badly to the point I feel sick it's because I saw so much with my mum at a young age pass away from cancer 😪 I also having specialist treatment for my anxiety but it just worries me as I read on Google that if only on one finger or thumbnail it's a bad sign and it's only on my thumbnail on the hand I use the most but hopefully it's just nail damage as I do bite my nails a lot too.
I really appreciate you and hope your okay ❤️ much love and hugs xxxx

Oh it really is, I even had a doctor laugh at me and say it was functional pain in my head.
But if you are a nail biter I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't due to this, as I was a terrible nail biter too, which made my dermatitis worse. Have managed to stop a few months ago. Do still have bad months with the health anxiety. And won't step foot in the doctors anymore. But I'm the best I've been in a long time.
But I am on sertraline for it. Which does keep me stable.

But I honestly get it OP. Google is the absolute worst though. Just try and take your mind away from it. I know it's easier said then done. I'm lucky as my DH is my greatest support and he's totally opposite to me and keeps me calm as much as possible.

Best wishes my lovely and everything will be ok xxx

i’ve also had one on a toenail for like 15 years.

the dermatologist told me to look at it as if it was a mole.

if there are no changes and it’s a straight line, then don’t worry.

by all means go to the GP tomorrow, but please don’t worry too much.

Your welcome lovely, I've been on that scared/feeling sick for 5 weeks of calls from me every thursday to the oncology hospital, they thought I had a possible big cell tumor on my 5th metatarsal, to be told it hasn't been looked at yet, then log into the NHS app, at 130 am one morning from another sleepless night of endless worry, which had also been advised not to do by my doctor, as it also had me spiraling. To see that it wasn't a tumor and was bursitis. But in-between that, had the worst case of candida I'd ever experienced. Then my youngest was really poorly. Blamed myself as I'd been so het up with the hospital and other illnesses etc. Then shoot on a month and I'd caught a bacterial infection in my stomach, H.pylori, I'm also an IBS sufferer, but refused to go to the docs for 5 weeks. As I was terrified, lost loads of weight as I could only manage a a cheese sandwich a day if I was lucky. And took me nearly a year and a half to recover from that. But had water infections on and off in-between an Auntie who died from pancreatic cancer. And an estranged uncle who died from heart attack, who no other relatives wanted to deal with. So was left to me and my cousin. Then therapy in-between.

I honestly was incapable of looking after myself. If it wasn't for my husband I'd of been buggered. It felt like I was on another planet autopiloting for the kids and everyone else but for myself just didn't have it in me.

But I've come out of the otherside an absolute warrior. Yes I do still have my days when I'm rattled with the anxiety, but I definitely have more good then bad now. Apologies for the humongous post. Will be thinking of you tomorrow my lovely. But I'm sure all will be good 😊 xxxx
