My husband and i can't agree on a name for our baby girl and we're running out of time

We have about 6 weeks left and i love the name Isolde but my husband thinks it sounds too old and hard to pronounce, he keeps pushing for Luna which i think is way too popular right now, our older daughter is named Elara so it needs to flow well with that and not sound too similar, i also really like Seren and Calla but i'm not sure if they're too unusual for everyday life, has anyone named their daughter something uncommon and actually loved it long-term or did you end up regretting going unique over something more familiar

Seren is quite a common Welsh name.

Luna and Calla sound nice together

FoodYUMyum · 17/05/2026 23:38

Respectfully, 6 weeks is not ‘running out of time’.

We got told, on day 4 in hospital after me giving birth, by a nurse that I was being discharged the following day and if we didn’t want to return to that county, my DH should go and do it that afternoon!

Seren is beautiful…congratulations on your pregnancy x

catcurl · 17/05/2026 23:40

I would go for your choice. We were in a similar position, my husband had a very very limited selection of names he liked. Having been through pregnancy and childbirth, I honestly feel now that whilst parenting decisions generally are equal, that you get final say.

I would go your name for first name, your husband's choice for middle.

Seren is quite popular I think. Isolde is lovely and uncommon but not bizarre.

decorationday · 17/05/2026 23:44

Out of the names you've listed, I'd vote for Seren.

MayFlyBee · 17/05/2026 23:45

Seren is lovely, Isolde sounds nice but is such a sad name!

Eggybreadwithnuts · 17/05/2026 23:45

I love Calla, it's beautiful. 🌸

KnickerlessParsons · 17/05/2026 23:45

Seren and Luna are too matchy for me. Star and Moon.

Why is it a sad name?? It means star.

Steelworks · 17/05/2026 23:47

Seren is quite well known, and is easy to pronounce and spell.

i never know how to pronounce Isolde - I-solde? I-sol-Dee ? Iz - solde? Etc

Isolde doesn’t mean star? I assume the pp means the name is sad because of the story of Tristan and Isolde, anyway.

Seren is a completely normal name in Wales, @CosyLimeTraybake. I’m Welsh but have always preferred Serena to Seren, personally.

sittingonabeach · 17/05/2026 23:52

@KnickerlessParsons she dies of a broken heart

Continuouschange444 · 17/05/2026 23:53

I love Isolde Op but if you want a compromise there’s always Iona?

I personally love Suria which represents brightness, energy and life.

Scarlettjune · 17/05/2026 23:54

I like Calla!

Unusual and pretty

HortiGal · 18/05/2026 00:03

Luna is possibly the most common pet name and Calla makes me think of Cala Homes

I thought she meant Seren was a sad name! Ignore me.

Scarlettjune · 18/05/2026 00:04

Isolde is nice too. I went to school with an Isolde

Scarlettjune · 18/05/2026 00:05

You know a name i just thought if that could fit.

Aida.

I went to school with an Aida too.

AbbieDabbieDoo · 18/05/2026 00:16

I love Seren, I think it's such a beautiful name. As your older daughter is called Elara I'm not sure that Calla really works, as lovely as it is - in tripping over them a bit when saying them together

AImportantMermaid · 18/05/2026 00:22

I know 3 Lunas - they’re all dogs. Seren is lovely. Other names could include Ailsa, Rowan, Stella, Lucia, or Julia.

Thatcannotberight · 18/05/2026 00:32

Luna is definitely the most popular name for a female dog.
I know a few girls called Seren in Cornwall.
I love Isolde.

Whataflippincircus · 18/05/2026 00:33

Every other dog on the park is called Luna.

SouthLondonMum22 · 18/05/2026 00:37

You both need to accept that Isolde and Luna are not options since one of you doesn't like them.

Do you both like Calla and Seren? If so then I don't think they are too unusual at all and both sound nice with Elara.
