I'm currently working on my family tree and the name Kezia and Keziah keep popping up in Victorian times. I think it's a lovely name and actually sounds quite modern.

I find it really interesting that it never became popular again...

Do you like it.. or is it just me?

I always think of one of the blind dates Hugh Grant had in Notting Hill. The fruitarian 😂

Jeschara · 07/01/2021 17:56

I like it.

GypsyLee · 07/01/2021 17:56

I have several of these in my family tree, recently and going back centuries.
I am Romany.

Tenyearsgone · 07/01/2021 17:57

It's a beautiful name.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 07/01/2021 17:58

I love this name, a friend named her daughter Kezia about 18 years ago, I didn't know it was an old name.

peapotter · 07/01/2021 18:02

She was one of Job’s daughters in the Bible.

Two different names though imo. Kezia is Kez-ee-a (like Dugdale the Scottish politician). Keziah is kez-eye-a like Isaiah.

Which do you prefer? I think the last is more classical, but that’s just a gut feeling.

daisypond · 07/01/2021 18:20

I like it. It gets mentioned on here every so often. Kezia or Keziah is a bit like how lots of Old Testament girls’ names have changed over time and cultures: Susannah / Susanna; Rebekah / Rebecca; Hannah /Anna.

june2007 · 07/01/2021 18:32

Now I say Ke zee a but I know one who is Ke zigh ah. (Like Isiah.) Which I don,t like so how would you prenounce? Sorry just moticed above says same thing.

Echobelly · 07/01/2021 18:38

I know a young adult Kezia, I think it's a lovely name - she pronounces it 'Kay-zia'... so there's obviously a lot of pronounciations about!

Elisheva · 07/01/2021 18:43

I do think it is becoming more popular. I know three, an adult, a teenager and a toddler.
In the Bible Kezia’s sisters are Jemima and Keren-Happuch - that’s a name I’ve never seen on a school register Grin

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/01/2021 18:52

Love it. Really like the nn Kizzy with it too. I prefer it pronounced Kez -ee -ah (probably because I really like the similar Cassia).

sadpapercourtesan · 07/01/2021 18:54

It means cinnamon flower I think

It's beautiful

Jonahroo · 07/01/2021 19:50

I know a few - all church friends though. It's quite popular in Christian families I think. Really pretty and lovely nickname potential.

WhateverHappenedToMe · 07/01/2021 20:07

I have one in my family, pronounced Key- sha

GypsyLee · 07/01/2021 20:38

It is a biblical name.
More than 80% Romany have biblical names.
Passed down through generations depending on your position in the family.

Chilldonaldchill · 07/01/2021 21:47

I love it.
I like the NN Kizzy.
I prefer the Kezia pronunciation but have got used to the Keziah one as I think that's a bit more popular.

TomQuinn · 07/01/2021 21:49

I knew a Keziah, she's a grown woman now but I knew her as a little girl. She used to get called Kezzie. Lovely name.

Firebird83 · 07/01/2021 22:10

I have a few in my family tree, back in the late 1700s. I like how it looks but I never know how to say it. I wonder how it was pronounced back then.

DramaAlpaca · 07/01/2021 22:12

I've loved this name since I first read The Diddakoi as a child. I love both versions, and Kizzy too.

Saisong · 07/01/2021 22:16

My cat is Keziah/Kizzy after the Diddakoi

NannyR · 07/01/2021 22:20

I know a Kezia (kezzy) who has a sister called Jemimah (jemmy), they also have a baby sister but their parents decided not to call her Keren-happuch!! She does have a OT name though.

ProudAuntie76 · 08/01/2021 00:02

There was a horrible “rough” bully at my school called Keziah. Hate to say this but the way she was described by other parents and teachers was “from a common family” so the name took on a “common” association. She was so awful and just a real, big, aggressive, loud mouthed person that I shudder at the name and can only associate it with that. In my mind I can’t imagine a “classy”, placid,
kind Keziah, although I’m sure they of course exist. It’s funny as at the time, we all assumed it was a modern, made up type of name like Kourtnee or Jazmin, but it’s actually the opposite. Only ever came across the one.

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 00:17

Yep. And nice it’s a family name

maddsclairelouise · 08/01/2021 00:38

I really like it, unique names are my fav!

SE13Mummy · 08/01/2021 00:42

DD2 was nearly called Keziah, I love the name.
