To think life is more of a pain in the arse than it's worth

Another day another random assortment of hassle and pain

And this is pretty much the best it's ever been (ok the 00s were better)

Aibu to wonder why this is a secret truth?

Life is pretty grim in my experience OP.

Amazingly though some people just seem to sail through it without being touched by the problems and set backs a lot of us experience.

I think everyone has some problems and most people quietly resent the drudge. Actually being into the whole thing is rare I reckon. God it's a drag.

I think if it wasn’t a secret truth, we’d stop having babies, which keeps human life in existence and the world spinning!

I don't know if you've noticed but that is rather winding down.

The world will spin nicely when our noise is gone

That's not my experience at all. I love life and most of the people in my world seem to be happy enough with it, despite the hassles. Life is what you make it.

Shithotlawyer · 18/06/2026 22:10

we all seem to have a setting of how happy we are with life and it seems that whatever happens to us we drift to that kind of buoyancy level. Some folks are serene and within themselves happy even as they go through some of life's biggest storms. Some are more glass half empty even when great things turn up for them. After the first shock of misery at a bereavement or the first incredulous joy at winning the lottery, we all settle back to our levels.

which is both depressing and cheerful if you think about it.

You can tell my natural level is half and half can't you!

No it's a shit show of chores and dealing with wankers. I'm not saying you shouldn't feel free to feel differently but it's objectively gash around here.

My life is pretty good!

sorry yours isn’t. But most peoples are positive

doitwithlove · 18/06/2026 22:15

Life got better for me after 50.

HoldMyWine · 18/06/2026 22:17

Happiness is a choice. You can choose to make the most of what you’ve got and appreciate what you have, or choose not to.

Washingforweeks · 18/06/2026 22:17

My life is the best it’s ever been. Financial stable, a husband I literally adore and he is the same with me. Kids are thriving. But I still have my days where I think is this all there is? Surely there’s more

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 18/06/2026 22:20

I am seriously thinking of not watching the news any more. That poor little boy, Preston and now a toddler, has been fed to the crocodiles by a random.

My life is objectively better than almost everyone who has ever lived (even more for most women, jesus imagine not being allowed to earn your own money and living before tampons). But it's still a massive hassle across the piece.

My honest view, the reason they don't allow assisted dying on demand is that too many taxpayers would go for it.

Why don't you try enjoying life and appreciate the small things? The absurdity of life is both it's beauty and banality. Stop being an Eeyore.

Has that impacted your life? Did you know him?

Snap out of it! You don’t want to spend your one-life miserable. Try to enjoy whatever it is you currently have in your life and be hopeful for a better day tomorrow.

Op seems to be saying she’s suicidal so not sure ‘snap out of it’ is appropriate

I'm not. Although I do find your inability to engage with the philosophical concept of the futility of existence a bit depressing.

YABU. I get feeling down sometimes but life is what you make it. It isn't 'objectively' bad any more than it is good.

I mean, you just said the government don’t allow assisted dying because so many people would go for it. Sounds like a cry for help to me. Don’t need to be an asshole. Maybe that’s why you’re depressed

I do enjoy plenty of pleasures. But it's not worth the candle. If I could press a button to stop my parents from having bothered I would.

With some slight trepidation that pre birth Mormon limbo might be real.

Ughhh the unimaginative and docile control all our lives with their vapid value systems.
