DS (14) is at one of the top private schools in the area and has done brilliantly there. This 20% VAT is going to add £4,200 a year to the fees. The school has already said they'll have to pass it straight on. The local comprehensive is simply not an option. Standards there are frankly not the best (as seen by the very low exam results). We've worked hard to provide the best - we're even cancelled buying our holiday home. This tax is pure class envy aimed at aspirational families like ours.I've started a petition against it. It's still pending government approval but I'll post the link here as soon as it's approved. AIBU to feel this is spiteful and shortsighted? Private schools aren't just for "the rich", many of us are working class professional families stretching ourselves.
