I’ve just read Angela’s Raynor’s statement about why Labour did so badly and what they need to do to change….aibu to think SHE STILL DOESNT GET IT!! Nothing mentioned about welfare, nothing mentioned about immigration-these are 2 subjects most talked about as the reasons why people didn’t vote for Labour.
she might not like it-but id they want to stay in power, they MUST tackle these subjects and not just ignore them because they dint fit her narrative.

There is absolutely no way they should go more anti.Immigration. it will alienate many of their voters, and they will never hopefully be as anti immigration as the right wing parties.

Overtheatlantic · 11/05/2026 08:15

I’m not sure she’s capable of understanding the wider picture because she is very much a product of her upbringing and circumstances, without the intellectual curiosity to further inform her beliefs. She’s a local politician but not a global leader.

Did you actually see the results of the local elections and read about why so many previous Labour voters rejected Labour?

why do you think Reform attracted so many new voters?

Until the labour party understands that socialism will never work, they have no chance.

Unfortunately they all believe in socialism so they will never give that up.

She just can't see that her workers reforms are a big part of the problem.

All they are concentrating on is the losses in Wales and they have not addressed the losses to Reform at all because they can't as they have no answer.

The also think that all the people who voted reform are idiots.

SpiceGirlsNeedAComeBack · 11/05/2026 08:20

This always happens. We get rid of a PM and replace with someone worse.
We don’t need far left politics - it’s very worrying if she gets made PM. Not to mention wasn’t she done for tax evasion not long ago? Why is she allowed to stand for PM?

The irony is that net migration is down 69% under this government.

Sadly, I think it could get to zero, and Farage would still be spouting "stop the boats".

Do you think those voters, who voted purely for immigration reasons, will now vote for a slightly more right wing labour?

Far, better to do a really good job at improving the economy. And bringing the country back to some resemblance of normality after it was wrecked by the tories. So far they are not doing this.

If all they are concerned about is chasing votes, then they are far better going for the green and non voters than the Reform lot. These massively out number those voting for Reform.

It’s not immigration as a whole that bothers people (in my opinion), it’s illegal immigration.

But it isn't just immigration. It's the lack of welfare reform as well.

The Tories couldn't reform welfare as everyone would call them the nasty party.

Labour is the only party that can do it but they won't for some reason and they are hemorrhaging votes because of it.

Or listen to what the people of this country actually want? People do not (in general) want more illegal immigrants. They do not want their taxes going up at the same time as welfare spending going up whilst dealing with increased COL themselves.

Labour are not LISTENING.

I think it would be worse than that. Their supporters are already cheerfully talking out loud about how there should be fewer people of colour living here (eg the woman who called in to Vanessa Feltz's show complaining about not being served by white people in London shops; also the Reform candidate who made the appalling comment about Nigerians and pot holes). They'd just move on to deporting people of colour who have the right to live here.

carrythecan · 11/05/2026 08:26

It is down, but not actually due to any policies Labour introduced. It’s down due to Tory polices set in place before Labour got in.

Maybe in your bubble that's what people want. In my bubble, they very much have other concerns.
I live in a wonderful diverse area. I love the fact that my kid's friends are all different.Cultures and religions. My life and their life are enriched by our wide variety of people and cultures around us.
I don't want people to come by small boats, not because I care about them coming here. But because I don't want them to risk their lives and to die for this. So I do want them to stop the boats, but not for the same reasons that you do.
More than half of the vote at this election went to more liberal parties (Lib dem, Labour, Green) so actually maybe you're in the wrong.

I don’t think this Labour gov can realise that. Blair was more aware. But the response to electoral failing will be as Rayner has shown.

Exactly this.

Anyone who can get out is already out or is seriously thinking about it.

The problem with socialist is they that they expect everyone else to pay.

Unfortunately when you've only got socialists left in the country then they will have to start paying for everything themselves. Good luck with that.

HermioneWeasley · 11/05/2026 08:30

As I understand it, net migration is down because tax payers are leaving the country at high rates, not because immigration is reducing.

there’s a saying “if liberals won’t police the borders, fascists will”. Labour need to get a grip or we will have Reform making terrible decisions

So just slightly more than half the vote went to 3 parties combined. Which means that slightly under half the vote went to one party (Reform)? I think you answered your own argument.

Yeah, the Tories policy of making the UK so bad that people won't flee here from war torn countries. Genius!

Same as reform

I know, but this also shows a lack of understanding. If they are referring to small boats, then they are misunderstanding the cause. The Conservative party changed the law to require anyone claiming asylum to be on UK soil when they did so. Thus, although the method of arrival is irregular, it is one that has been promoted, and one where there is little other choice. As an aside, if asylum is granted, it is not permission to stay indefinitely. The claim is reevaluated periodically to ensure the criteria where asylum was granted are still prevalent.

The chances of small boats arriving and the people vanishing into the ether is very small.

I wouldn't waste your breath. The left wingers on here will never understand.

They just expect everyone else to pay.

They keep going on about tax the rich and tax big companies, but what happens when there aren't any more rich people and companies stop investing as they already have done?

Then they have no answers.

And what makes me laugh is when they say that the UK is a rich country! We have trillions of pounds worth of debt!
