To have reported this Vinted listing

Slightly tongue in cheek

I found a beautiful nobody’s child dress on Vinted. £17 and listed as brand new with tags, but in the description it was stated that they had taken the tags off, worn it once, changed her mind and put the tags back on.

I made an offer of £12, because I felt that was reasonable given that the dress had been worn and tags reattached. She sent me back a message basically calling me cheap and saying the dress had cost her £70 new so why should she sell it for such a low price?

To be honest I was going to leave it until she started sending rude messages, so I reported it to Vinted. It looks like the listing and account have now been taken down. I feel a bit petty, but AIBU to have done this?

I'm not familiar with Vinted, but are you basically reporting her for being rude? Did you reply to her rudeness, i.e. did you escalate?

Blueeberry · 10/05/2026 00:09

Offering £12 for an already cheaply priced dress is very rude - I wouldn’t want you as a buyer!

No, for her listing being misleading and her listing something as brand new when it’s not

I quite agree with you and I've reported in similar circumstances.

HermioneGrangersHair · 10/05/2026 00:14

I have seen loads of BNWT dresses on Vinted, you scroll through the photos and see the seller wearing the dress at a wedding or the races so not brand new with tags at all! It’s quite common.
Whether your offer was too low is up to the seller.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/05/2026 00:16

YANBU at all.

They’ve pretty much listed this under false pretences if they have said NWT and they’ve worn it - should be up as “very good” condition.

Also, all’s fair in love and offers on vinted. If you don’t want to accept an offer just reject it! They shouldn’t be sending you rude messages just for making an offer.

I’ve only once made a very low offer on an item - it had been up there forever and tbh was never going to sell at the price they want - it’s still up there now! They didn’t like my offer so they put up the price, which I found funny tbh.

Is that not how it works though @Blueeberry ?
The seller, surely, is at liberty to ignore the offer and hold out for her asking price.
I've never used Vinted so am genuinely curious.

No, you’re right, it’s exactly how it works!

Meh, it sounds like she was clear in the rest of the text, so not really misleading.

It sounds like a bit of a ploy that's used on Craigslist, to list something as $1 in the title, because if you list no price at all it won't show up in a price-search. But then you put the actual price in the body of the ad.

I suspect you reported it mostly because you were annoyed at her insulting you. But, again, meh - it's over, so don't stew over it.

That is what happens on Vinted.
Sellers can ignore offers.

MouldyCandy · 10/05/2026 00:34

I saw one the other day - listed as BNWT but in the description they had stated that it had been worn, but only a few times, so it was "as good as new".

eBay did have a "report ad" for being misleading function. I don't know if Vinted do, but YANBU for reporting someone for being unnecessarily abusive.

Friendlygingercat · 10/05/2026 00:35

I have a shop on Ebay. You can set a minimum offer beneath which offers will not be considered and I always use this. If someone sends me a lower offer and gets rejected the system only allows them to make 2 more. If they cant meet my minimum proce I dont get into conversation unless they are offering to buy a batch.

I was going to open an account on Vintad and immediately got blocked before i had even listed anything. After 3 days they unblocked my account but as you can imagibe I did not proceed with such a flaky site. The prices are too low anyway.

I don’t think it’s cheaply priced when you put it in the context of it being worn.

Well it is misleading. It’s tagged as being “brand new with tags”, when it isn’t.

But if I'm understanding it correctly, it's clarified in the text!

MeAndMyGhost · 10/05/2026 03:11

I don't understand why some sellers get so prickly when you put in an offer they don't like - they don't have to accept it. So weird.

AzureLurker · 10/05/2026 07:27

I bought a pair of trousers that were listed wrongly it turned out as it seems so many sellers think UK an US sizes are the same, when I mentioned this in the review she sent a message calling me a bitch. She may have just blocked you which is why you don't see the profile or the item anymore. I think the rules on listing should be clearer when describing an item for condition and sizing. Vinted and the 'buyer protection' fee is useless when there is a problem.

Sartre · 10/05/2026 07:29

To be fair £17 for a nobody’s child dress is a steal, they always sell for way more than on Vinted. She did only wear once as well so unless it has stains, I’d still say the original price was a steal. She obviously shouldn’t have been rude.

Tontostitis · 10/05/2026 07:31

Life is too short for this. You were being a cheapskate she was an arse. Laugh and move on triumphing on petty victories against imaginary opponents won't make you happy

Tvtimes · 10/05/2026 07:32

Seems to be the way on Vinted. I’ve come to realise that ‘New without tags’ is often used for something that’s been lightly worn and I never trust that something with tags hasn’t been worn either.
YANBU to make a low offer or report her for misleading listing

Agree, I just laugh to myself when a ridiculous low price comes in and just decline.

the seller said in the description it’s been worn so she hasn’t been deceptive apart from the category listing. Normally when you make an offer, the buyer will accept a little less, but I’d never accept £12 when I’ve listed it for £17. This is the problem with Vinted now. It’s become so popular and demand is high, which is driving down prices. It’s pretty much like a bootfair from home.

I think the Vinted condition bit is pretty clear.

People just don’t follow them and it should be reported because they are manipulating the system for traffic.

I wouldn’t have sent in an offer after reading that though. Someone knowingly ticking new with tags and then explaining that it’s not, has already showed what kind of seller they are.

iris1000 · 10/05/2026 07:41

Im surprised she bothered responding. I’d have given a counter-offer of £15 or so then moved on. Her BNWT was misleading but she did explain in the text, most just pretend it’s genuinely BNWT.

I’ve been selling a lot on Vinted though and got a bit jaded with buyers. People trying to reduce an £8 silk top to £5. Someone trying to return a £10 jacket for which I had listed all the measurements and made clear it was vintage so not a ‘modern’ size 12, and they wanted to return it as it didn’t fit. Thank god my clear out is complete and I don’t have to deal with anyone any more!
