I'd mention this 'Where's Jessica?' trend to the mum - it seems to work with screaming toddlers. Mine were sent straight indoors if they lost it so sympathy 💐

I've seen that on tik tok 🤣🤣

Coming here to say exactly this.

May be more effective than “Melissa!! I’m drunk and outside!”

Goldenbear · 09/05/2026 13:20

The Mum is screaming at their toddler- how lovely!

That poor kid.

You’re not being unreasonable at all. Unwanted noise can be so difficult to put up with. Weve had six months of constant disruption from our neighbours’ builders six days a week, with drilling, banging, amd demolition from 7.15 every morning until gone 6 every night. They have completely ignored the local council’s permitted working hours but of course by the time Ive called out the Noise Team and they finally turn up, it’s either 8 am or they’ve left for the day. I work from home and the disruption has been enormous. I have now had to resort to playing music loudly enough to drown out the noise. The neighbours have now moved into part of the house, so I hope they are enjoying my selection of heavy metal.

This
how is that remotely helpful
I’d have called the police to be honest there could be a bigger issue here
the child is too little to have his voice heard

NuffSaidSam · 09/05/2026 14:08

You'd be very unreasonable if there are any other neighbours who would then have to listen to a tantrum, a woman swearing at a small child and your loud music.

If it's just your two houses, then crack on.

I think headphones with music on might be a more effective and reasonable solution.

Bit dramatic why would the police care that a toddlers having a tantrum and the mums shouting and swearing at him. Its not the best parenting but its a long way of police and ss level

That’s not Normal behaviour
safeguarding is EVERYONES responsibility
not reporting is as bad as the person doing it

Do you realise how high the level is for that sort of involvement. Have you never heard anyone shout or swear at their kids before?

Calling the police out to a tantrumming toddler?????
That sounds reasonable 🤣🤣🤣

Yes OP put your music on. I'd play something like Slipknot at full volume till they take the hint.

tooloololoo · 09/05/2026 14:56

What an abusive mum to her baby
I would just call the police

tooloololoo · 09/05/2026 14:57

You think swearing at a child is ok and turning music up louder?

says a lot about you too .

happinessischocolate · 09/05/2026 14:58

Do you speak to this neighbour at all? If she’s next door can you not offer her a cup of tea and some conversation? Shouting and swearing at a toddler isn’t great but maybe she has other stuff going on and it’s the last straw?

I had a neighbour like this years ago, fortunately our kids were roughly the same age so I’d invite them round and distract her and them.

Still report it
no matter how small
they’ll keep a record and should further more serious events occur it builds up a picture

why are people normalising this?

there was another thread with a dad telling a tiny baby to shut the f* up! And the mum questioning if it was an issue?

as I said on that thread people have very low standards of what is acceptable

It’s not your place to decide if something meets threshold for services -
it is all our responsibility to report anything we see that could be abuse / suffering / neglect

kid having trantrum
mum shouting and swearing - she needs parenting advise
neighbour wants to drown it all out with loud music

wow what a shit show

Between telling OP to go round and offer the mother a cup of tea and insisting that she call the police, this thread is wild🤣🤣🤣

ymemanresu · 09/05/2026 15:06

Play chillout meditation type music full blast. Might help the kid and the mum will get the hint 🤣

Well if that child ends up beaten black and blue or the mother ends up in some sort of serious mental health crisis where it’s a danger to her and the child -

you’ve ignored it
you were aware
you’ve got to live with that

she might be really struggling and need help

I’ve done loads of safeguarding training over the years this is a big red flag and I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t do anything - there’s some uncaring people on here
