To wear the same basic outfit and not think about clothes anymore

Bedheadbeachbum · 06/05/2026 21:12

So for the last year or so I increasingly don't give a damn about clothing, what to wear, whether it matches, buying new outfits, etc etc. I'm just done with it, honestly do not have the headspace - but I still want to look nice.

Does anyone just wear the same 'outfit' or the same look day to day?

I'm hanging on to a few dressier bits for the extremely rare occasion of going out & dressing up but at the moment I'm gravitating towards a hugely no fuss minimal wardrobe - any inspiration?

Yeah me, I buy a few of the same top or trousers I like in different colours and just switch them. In the summer I have a few skirts I rotate as well. Just can’t be bothered to think about it.

Like you I do also have a few smarter/dressier bits for when the need arises.

Runningupthehillagain · 06/05/2026 21:22

Well I am but only because we’ve had a house fire and I can’t work out where to begin with replacing stuff. And it is just stuff.

I’ve got some good basics -
T-shirts and some flattering jeans, some shirts and jumpers. Also two good pairs of leggings. A belt can dress up an outfit. Some trainers and boots for day/evening options.

Go for neutral colours.

The issue I have is now transitioning that to spring/summer. I don’t have any skirts/dresses or shorts yet.

Overall it’s a much simpler way to live, and reduces washing/ironing/putting away. However, six months in and it’s very dull.

Minime22 · 06/05/2026 21:22

Me to. Like you I have a few dressier items but I’m generally a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal.

Hoanna · 06/05/2026 21:23

I cannot wear any shoes of my choice but only what fits me and this is usually men's boots with very large soles...so therefore anything with boots or in the summer anything with men's sandals or clogs

I still have pretty face though and sparkling green eyes so buy just nice coloured tops which bring my colours out - white skin, black hair, green eyes

DysmalRadius · 06/05/2026 21:24

I have a uniform and wear it every day. I didn't even really rotate colours that much - I have six or seven identical pairs of trousers and t-shirts and I wear them every day. I do not need more decisions in my life, so taking one off the list is brilliant!

RufustheFactualReindeer · 06/05/2026 21:25

My spring/early summer look is grey skinny jeans and a grey t shirt, either black Birkenstocks if its warm or black lace up sneakers if its a bit cool. Worn with a denim jacket

i love it, i feel nice and put together, it suits me and its soooooo easy

garlicandsapphires · 06/05/2026 21:27

I love this way of dressing. But find that too much thought goes into deciding on the prefect outfit that I’ll never have to think about again. I like the idea and follow it roughly though.

mindutopia · 06/05/2026 21:29

I have literally been doing this for years. In the summer, it’s nice t-shirt and jeans (black if I need to look work casual). In the winter, one of 3 long sleeve shirts, black cardigan, jeans (again, black if I need to look more formal). I even wore it to a funeral recently, because that’s what I wear! 😂

Yellowpingu · 06/05/2026 21:29

Everything in my wardrobe is in the same 3 main complementary colours plus white, so no matter what I pull out it works. I have a couple of patterned dresses that don’t quite follow that rule but at least one of the main colours are in it so they’ll work with whatever I choose to wear with them.

Can I ask what the 3 main complementary colours are please?

Yes, I love this! When did you start doing this?

Sounds a really cool look.

I have basically a summer wardrobe of the same look - racer back tank tops and floaty boho market trousers because I love to look like an old hippy in the hot summers.

Need something for the cooler months - maybe t shirt, hoodie & jeggings with different scarfs.

Mark Zuckerberg is known for this. He wears a daily uniform: a grey T-shirt and jeans to reduce decision fatigue. Go for it.

BobbieTables · 06/05/2026 22:56

Yes, I did this for over a decade. Leggings, short denim skirt, t shirt, cardi or jumper in the winter.
I've now changed shape a bit and have a very variable sized middle throughout the day so am trying to get a new uniform.

UnctuousUnicorns · 06/05/2026 23:00

I had an accident a year and a bit ago that has left me in a wheelchair. Clothes now are soft, stretchy cotton knicks, cotton vest top with built in support (screw bras), short sleeved stretchy tops, soft, stretchy, cotton leggings, socks (don't need shoes as I can't walk), and a fleece zip up top if it gets chilly. Oh, and a fleece lined zip up foot muff outdoors if it's particularly cold, along with a zip up jacket, hat, scarf and gloves. I can't go for a brisk walk to keep warm anymore, so I need to keep warm in cooler weather. But yes, whatever's easiest.

SilkSilk · 06/05/2026 23:02

Pretty much. Winter I wear wide-legged wool trousers and a cashmere jumper with or without a white shirt underneath. Summer I wear wide-legged culottes, T-shirts and Birkenstocks.

Sounds like my summer " uniform"

Placeoftides · 06/05/2026 23:07

I realised I'd inadvertently been doing this for years. For me it's black leggings, a great tunic top that covers my bum. Big black boots in winter, pastel trainers in summer. I own perhaps 4 pairs of shoes and maybe 6 outfits. All my clothes fit in one small chest of drawers. It's brilliant. Suits me perfectly, once something is wearing out I replace it. I do the opposite of fast fashion, I might not buy anything for years but wouldn't think twice about spending £200 on a pair of winter boots I'll wear every day and will last me over a decade

weegiemum · 06/05/2026 23:10

I either wear jeans with a black/dark top, or a (more colourful) maxi dress. I have bad scarring and swelling in my lower legs after an accident so don’t like them on show. I have a nice selection of dresses which I wear most of the time when I’m going out, trousers tend to be utilitarian for home. I don’t work due to a disability (which caused my accident!).

juggleit · 06/05/2026 23:27

I’m exactly the same….I have my favourites so worn and rinse and repeat. I do sometimes feel over the festive season with lots of meet ups with family that they must be thinking does she only have the same two jumpers?! But I love them - they were expensive and good quality and will last years. Funnily enough my husband is the same - is there less pressure for men to engage in their appearance as they age?

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 06/05/2026 23:34

The only tiny problem with this (it’s so tiny, honestly) is that if you buy say five pairs of trousers and eight tops at the same time and wear them on rotation, they’ll all wear out at the same time. I bought four multi packs of knickers and all 20 are coming up to needing replacement!

My happiest times clothes wise were when I was wearing an actual, literally uniform, and where I had to wear my own clothes but the type and style was such a narrow choice I again just bought multiples of things in different colours. Such an easy thing to get dressed every day.

ilovemynails · 06/05/2026 23:37

As I'm trying to loose weight I've not purchased any new clothes since Christmas.
We are retired so around the house I wear leggings and sweatshirt (I have 3).
Still have some nice clothes for going out whether it's shopping or somewhere else.
Some of these are a bit loose. Maybe I'll buy more when I loose another stone.
DH wears jeans and t-shirts.

Rummikub · 06/05/2026 23:46

I’m trying to do this but getting stuck on flattering jeans. So much easier when skinny jeans were in!

Ogonek · 07/05/2026 00:01

I pretty much do this too. It’s too much stress to think/worry constantly about what to wear. I do enjoy seeing other people who make the effort and look lovely and pulled-together and I’d love to be able to do it myself but realistically it isn’t going to happen.

So my trusty uniform of stripy tee-shirts and jeans lives to fight another day (and another, and another, and…)

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 07/05/2026 00:27

Yes, yes I do. Because I'm male, and this is largely how we work.

I own 4 pairs of jeans, and about 15 T-shirts, and 99% of the time my morning routine is to pick one of each at random.

The exceptions are:
Someone important coming to work - Swap t-shirt for polo shirt
Date night that isn't just popping down the pub - Swap t-shirt for one of two shirts (both checked)
Wedding / Funeral - break out the suit for it's yearly airing
Fuck it's hot - Where the hell did I put my shorts

I reckon I spend less time in a year contemplating what to wear, than DP does on an average morning.
