To feel upset about post on local fb group

I live in a fairly small village where people are super nosey but I keep myself to myself. Recently I chose to participate in no mow may (I did start a bit early) where you don’t mow your lawn to encourage wild flowers and bees / butterflies. I have also build a small hedgehog shelter.

today some busybody from down my road has posted on the local fb group about people needing to mow their lawns short and not have any wood in the garden as unsightly and attracts pests and rats. Now I know this is aimed at me and I feel upset.

i don’t want to mow it but they’ve got all their cronies making comments as well. I’ve got a friend coming to mow the lawn now in a few days as I can’t face the drama. We can leave a few patches where the lovely wild flowers are.

Ffs, lost me at the use of Karen. Why do people STILL insist on using the name of innocent women as an insult?

Mrsmouse71 · 03/05/2026 15:41

Ignore them!

Roads · 03/05/2026 15:42

YABU for using the name Karen as a childish insult.

Ignore the Facebook drama and live your life as you please you'll be a happier person if you stop caring so much about other people's opinions.

RedTagAlan · 03/05/2026 15:42

I would pack in Facebook.

Shoxfordian · 03/05/2026 15:43

Just delete the group and grow your grass. Who cares what some random thinks?

RoseField1 · 03/05/2026 15:43

Why are you letting this bother you?!

Winderwall · 03/05/2026 15:44

I rolled my eyes at the Karen reference and stopped reading.

InterestedDad37 · 03/05/2026 15:44

I'd be tempted not to comment, as such, but just post a link to info about 'No-Mow-May' (and then stick to my guns).

Pitythefool · 03/05/2026 15:44

You lost me with Karen.

cantstartagain · 03/05/2026 15:44

Firstly it’s just embarrassing that you use the word “Karen” - it’s cringe, dated and misogynistic.

Also why do you even care? You think I’d give power to anyone making passive aggressive comments on Facebook.

And on the other side maybe your lawn is a mess seeing as you’ve “started early” - I mean that could mean a week or later summer.

I would pack in Facebook.

I very rarely use it but there’s some groups and local services only post on there

Are you called Karen?

OP don’t mow your lawn, they’ll be pearl clutching over something else in a few days.

Because I don’t like people talking about me behind my back. I mean I haven’t mowed it for a few weeks already. Rather than not mow during may.

ASAIK 'no mow May' is council made up nonsense to save them money (save by not starting mowing until June).

Leaving it extra long and then mowing it all down in June destroys all the habitat they created. To benefit wildlife, areas need to be left 'wild' all year long so you keeping the odd patch long ALL YEAR is a good thing. The idea that not mowing until June then mowing the crap out of it benefits nature is rubbish.

Even the “Karen’s Diner” restaurants have all closed down. It’s a certain type of person who still uses the reference.

ha ha🙄 another one who thinks misogyny is acceptable

ThornsInACheapBouquet · 03/05/2026 15:47

as someone called Karen who wouldn’t put up posts on FB like this, you are totally unreasonable

Roads · 03/05/2026 15:48

Welshmum2010 · 03/05/2026 15:46

Yes I didn’t realise it was such an insult.

Of course you did or you wouldn't have used it... Hmm

Pitythefool · 03/05/2026 15:48

If you didn’t mean it as an insult, why did you use it?

Doidontimmm · 03/05/2026 15:49

I’m glad you are upset as you may now know how women called Karen feel when you use their name as an insult.
