To not bother with Lidl anymore.

They had the best loyalty scheme and I was actually converted but they have now screwed it up.
Tescos is better quality and will be better value again.

Such a shame

Yeah that seems poor. Aldi have better quality food think ill switch

Catza · 02/05/2026 07:51

I never reach the maximum amount and often miss my freebies as they expire before my next shop so I don't use anything other than personalised coupons anyway and they are not going anywhere.
Tesco food is rubbish and my Tesco equivalent shop is at least 20% more expensive than Lidl. I also object to their price inflation so you can then "save" with clubcard prices which are still more expensive than Lidl.

Could someone summarise please it's not letting me read it

Jane143 · 02/05/2026 07:57

I’ve just read the attachment. Seems ok, we will just have to give it a go and see. I do love the free veg and bakery though!

It’s becoming more like a Sainsbury’s card, where you earn loyalty points and coupons off specific products

HoraceCope · 02/05/2026 07:58

i only occasionally used to get a free donut. it is not my main shop

Sartre · 02/05/2026 07:59

Tesco have the best system imo, I don’t think any supermarket has ever matched them. Lidl’s is weird in that you have to manually check for vouchers and add them to your card before shopping- how many would think to do this? I appreciate Tesco’s because I save them up all year for money off my Xmas shop.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/05/2026 08:44

Went really change anything for us as such. It seems more customisable than the current system. All supermarket points systems are a bit of a gimmick anyway. DH always hits the threshold for the 10% off so then has to plan to get the most out of it! We'll still be be shopping there.

Ladybyrd · 02/05/2026 11:23

Nope. Plus I went yesterday after my other half had been doing the shopping for the best part of a month - I came out feeling pretty fleeced. A couple of bottles of wine, enough meat for two dinners for four, cupboard items, a bit of fruit and dairy - £100!

It’s a pain in the arse not offering delivery - if there’s no cash incentive either anymore, forget it!

InterestedDad37 · 02/05/2026 11:28

I will mourn its decline, not with Thunderbird wine*, but with my freebie bar of chocolate, to be redeemed later 🍫

(*Ian Dury fans might get this one 🙂)

Giraffeandthedog · 02/05/2026 11:32

Noooo! The main reason I shop at Lidl is the random freebies. It’s even a family joke. I know it sounds silly, but it really makes me smile when I get my free donut, or fruit, or random one-brand product.

I can happily afford to shop at the other supermarkets, but this was a differentiator for me.

Madarch · 02/05/2026 11:39

Probably work better for us as you can still get money off but you can redeem it when you want. Typically, we only ever needed a few bits once we'd bagged the 10% voucher so we didnt get the most out of it. There's only so many bottles of olive oil i can store in my cupboard!

PRJ · 05/05/2026 06:00

So I've now got to spend £300 in a month to get £3 off whereas before when I hit the £250 mark it was 10% off my next shop. Then there was all the freebies on the way to the £250 mark. Lidl have just added to everyone else making life more expensive for us all!

Hellohah · 05/05/2026 06:10

Ah, I wondered why the month had extended to 4th May. Didn't realise it was changing. They definitely didn't tell me.
I do my main shop at Lidl and used my 10% off most months. I'd get all my cleaning stuff and bulk buy the things I knew I'd use later on my 10% week.
Very disappointed ☹️

IncessantNameChanger · 05/05/2026 06:17

We did normally hit the 10% off voucher then did a big shop to get the max out of that. So typically would be doing a £200 shop with the voucher with the aim of getting the next 10% off at the end of the month and doing this every month.

However I hate the tills in Lidl so I will be going to back to smaller weekly shops now.

Without the incentive to the vouchers I'd rather go back to Tesco delivery for a bigger shop. Shame. I reckon I saved a a good £30 a month just on rewards

Ah this is crap! I do all my shopping at Lidl so always got the 10% which was worth at least £10-15 to me.

PRJ · 05/05/2026 06:38

I agree as I could save around that much also every month.

anothervicky · 05/05/2026 16:59

I saw this today when I went shopping. They've really weakened their scheme, I was using the 10% strategically and front loading my months shopping. I don't think switching back to Tesco will save me money with their double 10% off though.

Netcurtainnelly · 05/05/2026 17:19

I've yet to see what it's all about but I know it's changing.

Trouble is that they are throwing a lot of donuts away (some idiot at the community fridge my wife volunteers at agreed to take them...sticky mess in the f ing car)

It’s a lot easier to get a delivery from Iceland and what they’ve just done has probably made it cheaper too. Their pasta is also much better.

ilovesleep6 · 05/05/2026 21:27

RIP Lidl plus. The changes are awful and too complicated. 1 point for every £1 you spend, and then you can change those for products. Only the reward scheme is far less generous. They will lose customers over this.

Giraffeandthedog · 05/05/2026 21:34

I used to spend about £350 a month in Lidl.

So now if I spend £350 I get 350 points which are worth £3.50. So 1%.

Previously in spending up to £250 I used to get a bakery item, fruit or veg, and generally another random freebie, and then I’d get 10% off the following shop. So about £15. So about 4%.

Thats a heck of a reduction in benefits!

XenoBitch · 05/05/2026 21:38

I never used it. It sounds like I would not have benefited anyway as I don't spend enough there.
It is more annoying that there is two tier pricing in Lidl now though.

suggestionsplease1 · 05/05/2026 21:48

Yes it's disappointing, definitely seems like a real term reduction in savings for people who were using previous coupons strategically, even for smaller monthly expenditure. The free veg at £50 could be used on a 7.5kg bag of potatoes, doesn't seems like there'll be any comparable deals.

I guess they're betting that in the present times they'll still be ahead of the competition in terms of food cost inflation and so they won't lose too much custom.
