Unexpected or unusual advantages of weight loss

I'm on a weight loss plan and have just got to the point where people are noticing. Today a lovely colleague who has lost 8 stone and kept it off said that she always had a rash under her boobs when she was bigger and psoriasis on her ankle that didn't ever go, and since she has been slimmer, these have gone. It led me to think of little things that bother me and if they will go. Anyone lost a lot of weight and noticed a change they didn't anticipate?

I'm losing weight steadily and have found a whole raft of benefits. Most would be expected I suppose, but all added together are totally life changing.

I've saved money (started diet by completely cutting out alcohol at New Year and have treated myself to regular lovely Neom products instead of a bottle of vodka at the weekend)

I've more energy (was previously suffering with chronic fatigue)
My asthma has improved
My BP has gone down
My Inflammation has gone down (and subsequently the arthritis pain I was suffering from daily, meaning I could cut out the horrid codeine so my quality of life / health has improved all round)

I've also noticed less tendency to get the horrible heat rash and chub rub soreness.

And one I've just noticed tonight - I can now balance my laptop on my actual lap. Previously, my big bloated tummy was in the way and pushed it off my knee!!

OneMoreCookieMonster · 11/07/2023 19:27

My hair isn't as greasy

tunbridgeoutrage · 11/07/2023 19:28

My boobies disappeared

sometimes it hurt when I sat down because I lost the padding of fat on my bum

my face looked more wrinkly

I felt the cold more

Nowadays my boobies are back and it doesn’t hurt when I sit down anymore. My temperature is better regulated and I look as though I had a facelift - unexpected benefits of weight gain!

People are nicer to you

I can relate to the laptop one. My laptop is on a downward angle when I have it on my lap so I can't wait til it's level.
I have more energy and achy knees are abating. Can also cross my legs more easily. I can't wait to have more benefits

Just feeling lighter is amazing. Like I just feel more bouncy!

FernsAndFlowers · 11/07/2023 19:34

A lump under my boob became apparent - it had probably been there a while and was cancerous

CallMeDiaz · 11/07/2023 19:39

No more heartburn!

Men look at me much more.

I feel much more motivated to make an effort with my hair and make up, nails etc, so generally look better overall.

AC2022 · 11/07/2023 19:40

There’s less of me to moisturise and shave/wax.

explainthistomeplease · 11/07/2023 19:40

I can sprint across a tennis court and hit balls my fat self could only dream of.

LaMaG · 11/07/2023 19:43

Great idea for a thread. Am hoping it will motivate me.

I'm always jealous of how people can curl up into a chair...

CallMeDiaz · 11/07/2023 19:52

That's funny @LaMaG I love being able to do that now! And also sitting on my office chair with my legs crossed underneath me on the seat.

Buy a bigger chair. Or sit
on a sofa.

So sorry to hear that. I hope you are making a good recovery.

I can wear anything I like; it fits and looks good. I can sit comfortably within the padding of car seats without it digging into my thighs or back. It’s easier to clean the shower because I am smaller, especially when squatting down to clean the bottom. My wedding ring is comfortable in my finger again. The size of the rock’n’roll bed in a campervan isn’t too small any more. I can turn over in bed without it being difficult. Hot weather is more bearable. Hips and back are not painful when driving long distance, knees aren’t in pain climbing stairs.

Everything is better since I’ve lost 8stone. Even feeling the cold isn’t too bad because I can zip a duvet coat up easily, instead of feeling like I was trussed up in a padded coat before I lost the weight.

crochetmonkey74 · 11/07/2023 20:10

I have always wanted to curl up in a chair. I've lost the ability to squat down since being heavy and I really want to do that again. I'd also like to be able to be lifted up in a hug with a partner .

My skin is masses better when I'm eating healthily and exercising more (eczema sufferer for my whole life)

Zebracat · 11/07/2023 20:15

Hot weather is actually quite pleasant.

Whataretheodds · 11/07/2023 20:16

Smaller clothes take up less space in a suitcase.

coxesorangepippin · 11/07/2023 20:20

You poo less

Clarinet1 · 11/07/2023 20:21

It takes less time to iron smaller clothes!

Stichintime · 11/07/2023 20:22

Quicker in shower and use less soap

crochetmonkey74 · 11/07/2023 20:23

Just thought of another one I'd like , to feel reassured that if I lost my case on holiday I could easily buy clothes at my destination
