I mean, she looks nice, fine, like she does every other outing. She is a very trim, very dignified person wearing exactly what is expected of her. A vision though?

It’s like every other 1950s coat dress she wears…

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 16/06/2026 20:12

Yep 1950's is exactly what it is. It would be great if she got her hair cut really short - or did something different. But that's never going to happen.

I guess it’s just her style to wear very detailed coat dresses, with quite long hair. She’s not a vision to me but I what do I know.

Darragon · 16/06/2026 20:15

Pretty sure I’ve seen that one before and it was described as yellow then, too (but doesn’t look yellow to me), or am I imagining that?

AnonymityAnonymity · 16/06/2026 20:16

She isn't a vision to me but she is one of the few members of the Royal Family I have any time for. And fwiw do think she has a lovely face and lovely hair

limetrees32 · 16/06/2026 20:20

The placement of those pockets give a very angular look to her hips.

Dearg · 16/06/2026 20:20

Hell, I wished I looked like that. My husband wishes I looked like that - she’s a fave of his.

She looks extremely well presented, understated and classy. From what I read, her outfit flies the flag for British design and fabrics. That’s what she is supposed to wear.

It’s not cutting edge , but honestly, I remember Diana being a trend setter, and a bit of a nightmare. So understated works for me.

Tigerbalmshark · 16/06/2026 20:22

It’s just yet another coat dress. I have no issue with Kate herself, but the breathy coverage is a bit ridiculous.

sprigatito · 16/06/2026 20:23

She’s a perfectly ordinary-looking woman who doesn’t have particularly good dress sense.

I think she's lovely looking and I'd kill for her figure. I like the evening dresses she wears but she could take more risks with her day clothes.

HRHCurmudgeon · 16/06/2026 20:28

I hate that she’s held up as THE vision of femininity. Like the Madonna herself. It’s not about her personally, I’m sure she’s perfectly pleasant (if incredibly, but understandably, dull in her fashion choices) but my god, some variety in the celebration of women wouldn’t go amiss.

Slim? Tick.
Mother? Tick
Long hair? Tick
Silent? BIG TICK.

But then I’d do away with the entire idea of monarchy. Awful concept.

Teaandsugar · 16/06/2026 20:29

Princess Sophie looks beautiful in that picture.
Her hair styled in that way with her hat looks fabulous. Lovely dress too.

I’m uncomfortable with people lionising her for her figure, tbh. I don’t make cruel comments about other women’s bodies, but I would like to see her health improve.

newrubylane · 16/06/2026 20:31

Sometimes she gets it really right - within the bounds of what she can reasonably wear. But I didn't think this was one of those times. The proportions of this outfit - length, pocket placement and the massive buttons - looked really odd to me.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 16/06/2026 20:33

Sophie’s dress is gorgeous

Livpool · 16/06/2026 20:35

I think her style is incredibly boring

Nofeckingway · 16/06/2026 20:39

That material was made especially for her . Don't think she has much choice but to play it safe with her daytime outfits . Especially all the formal events . If it's a hat affair she has to wear a dress . Can't see her in a jumpsuit ever . I love Sophie's hat .

dudsville · 16/06/2026 20:41

They all seem to stand around a lot.

I'm not surprised. If I was in her position and having seen what the press put her 'fashion icon' MIL through, I'd be dull as ditchwater.

Dabralor · 16/06/2026 20:55

She is like a doll. She dresses up like this and gets on with whatever her weird job entails.
Shes probably made coat dresses and big hats her schtick so that she can faff round incognito in more interesting clothes the rest of the time.

The breathless fawning and infantilising is tiresome, though, I agree.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 16/06/2026 20:56

The press rarely criticised Diana’s fashion sense. Most criticism came from mates of Charles. I don’t like what the PoW is wearing in that photo and I usually do like her clothes when she’s on duty. She has a role to play and she does her best.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 16/06/2026 20:58

Yes Sophie looks lovely. Much more interesting, but still appropriate.

AClassicTrenchcoat · 16/06/2026 21:01

She dresses much older than her years. Very safe and Home Counties, zero flair. She is very slim and tall, she could take more risks. I read somewhere she decided to pull back from wearing amazing clothes as she didn’t want it to be all about the clothes. They are clothes that can be wheeled out in ten years time with a few tweaks.

AClassicTrenchcoat · 16/06/2026 21:02

That coat dress is as dull as….
