Any surprisingly good Temu home decor finds?

I know, it's unethical and the vast majority of Mumsnet would never consider something do cheap and mass produced. Me, on the other hand, needs something cheap and cheerful to decorate my new place. I'm hoping there are a few of you who can tell me you've bought rugs/curtains/throws that were great value for money. Or anything else home related.

B&M or The Range if you need cheap and cheerful. Or try Charity shops? Car boot sales? Anything but Temu, really. My objection to it is more safety based, having known a few friends develop Temu habits and have had things like gadgets overheat, home decor items that turned out to be highly flammable, pet toys that were dangerous, etc.

bedfrog · 13/05/2026 06:48

Sorry but I don't think your want for cheap decor trumps the slave labour and terrible working conditions in temu factories, not to mention the lead and whatever else had been found in cheap Chinese products.
Try a charity shop instead. Loads of cheap and cheerful second hand decor, and you're helping out a charity too.

Rituelec · 13/05/2026 06:49

Ive given up with temu its all crap. Car boots for curtains and decorative items!

Are the conditions any better for the workers of those producing stuff for B&M, Home Bargains etc? A lot of the stuff on Temu is the same. I agree it is certainly not ideal, but as I said I have very little money and don't want to be moving in with newspaper for curtains. Charity shops are so expensive in my town.

Nope, that's why I suggested charity shops. The people working for these companies probably cannot afford curtains either as they are on sweatshop wages.

Someone else suggested car boots - could be an option. Or your local Buy Nothing group may help.

If you are really struggling and cannot afford curtains you could potentially see if your local council can help with things like carpets and curtains.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Facebook free groups have loads of things. Its worth a look on there.

Dontbeatwat · 13/05/2026 17:48

The charity shops round this way are horrendously expensive!!

I've ordered a few bits from Temu but always found it rubbish quality so no help really OP. What about HomeSense or TK Maxx? There's some real bargains to be had there if you search.

Summer26 · 13/05/2026 17:52

Try freegyle or freecycle I have given lots of stuff away on those which has saved me a visit to the tip, plus the bonus that someone else can make use of the items.

kscarpetta · 13/05/2026 17:54

How will you know if it's safe?

Devondevs · 13/05/2026 18:01

I’ve loved every home decor item I’ve got from Shein/Temu, never had an issue with any orders. Have a browse and just pick whatever you like.

Selkie33 · 13/05/2026 18:02

so many things @lavenderscenteddrawerliners

FishPie2 · 13/05/2026 18:17

I am a Temu shopper and only once had a problem with what I bought and they gave me credit for it and told me to keep it so I took it to charity shop. This week I had a faux sued jacket for about £13 which is just the same as the one in Next at about £45. Dresses, jumpsuits, shirts and trousers have been good and a picnic bag I bought last week was exceptional value at £6 so not every on there is rubbish and probably made in the same factory as Amazon, Next etc products.

I have no idea if anything I buy in any shop is safe. Safe from what exactly?

Give your head a wobble. Of course they have better conditions than human labour in China!!! Stop justifying your choice of Temu.
Buy cheap buy twice

To be sold in shops here they will have to have met UK/European standards for safety. Certain materials will not be able to be used. Materials will be tested for flammability or harmful levels of ingredients, such as lead as pp mentioned.

There’s so many better cheap options. Please avoid buying from places that wilfully exploit people.

Dizzydrizzy · 13/05/2026 18:23

Be very careful buying home wear from them as they’re sometimes full of toxic ingredients like lead etc.

Things sold in UK shops have to conform to safety standards though, things like not using toxic chemicals, electronics/batteries have to be safety tested, you can't have choking/strangulation hazards.
Temu doesn't have any of that.

Definitely not scouting for Temu 🤣 You can check with MN. I have much better things to troll than Temu.

So the stuff made in India and Bangladesh from HB and B&M is all ethical, fair trade. In all honesty I'd rather not buy from there, but need must unfortunately.

The majority of similar items for sale in B&M and Home bargains will also have been made in China.
