A brand new bottle of rinse aid, unopened and the nozzle was still down, but now I’m absolutely freaking out a tiny amount has gotten into her mouth. I have ocd and suffer Intrusive thoughts so I need someone to rationalise for me

She’ll be fine. But you must not store such products where she can get hold of them.

Growingaseed · 12/05/2026 12:26

Cap was down and bottle full so she's fine. Don't panic just move where they are kept or add a baby lock ☺️

namechangedforthispo · 12/05/2026 12:27

In such an idiot, I put them on the floor the other side of the baby gate as we came in as I needed a wee, came back and she had got it

She’s fine. None will have got into her mouth and even if it did, it would be such a minuscule amount that it would be completely harmless. Don’t give it any more thought.

namechangedforthispo · 12/05/2026 12:41

Thank you for not thinking me silly. Yesterday it was because she swallows a bit of bath water while I was washing her sisters hair and I’ve spent all night worrying about that, drives me insane my brain does.

The trouble with intrusive thoughts is it’s always something. What help are you getting?

I take 20mg of escitalopram daily, it worked brilliantly and for the most part does help, but around my kids it’s never quite hit the spot. I don’t check the cooker anymore, the doors and windows, things like that but when it comes to the children all rational thought goes out the window!

If it makes you feel better my daughter ate a dishwasher tablet and vomited it up on me but she was fine! (Dishwasher was open and had run the cycle but the tablet hadn’t dissolved fully). I think your daughter would have vomited too if she’d drank any of it.

My 3 year old merrily drinks the bathwater. Usually after he's weed in it.

littleorangefox · 12/05/2026 13:04

My 1 year old keeps licking supermarket trolley handles. Kids are sent to test us I'm sure of it.

GuelderRoses · 12/05/2026 13:10

Glad no harm done. It might be worth pointing out to the manufacturer just how much their product resembles a delicious drink (especially with that shaped cap), and that small children could easily mistake it for one.

FatEndoftheWedge · 12/05/2026 13:11

That bottle and who made it is very appealing to youngsters and even looks like a bottle test !

Floppyearedlab · 12/05/2026 14:25

OP it sounds like you have way too much time to think.
By all means be careful about what she has access to (and no, washing up liquid is not one of them) but you can't keep freaking out about everything.

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2026 14:37

I understand that totally! Perhaps you need to find some techniques you can use when you start to spiral?
