Are you still using your first mobile phone number?

My mobile phone number is the first (and only) mobile phone number I've ever had. I got it before the providers inserted the '7' after the 0 to the numbers who didn't have it. So that's nearly 30 years ago I guess.

Are you still using your first mobile phone number? I thought I was unusual but apparently quite a few people are still on their first. Are you?

Yes. Got my firsst mobile phone sometime in the late 90s back when BT Cellnet was a thing.

Still got the same number.

Rocknrollstar · 06/05/2026 17:05

Yes. Back in 1993/94 I had one of the brick telephones in a case and I still have the same phone number.

EffortlesslyDistracted · 06/05/2026 17:05

Yes, never had reason to change. My friends from back in the day all have the same ones too.

notacooldad · 06/05/2026 17:05

Yes, I've had it since the mid 90s. Same with dh.

passwordchanges · 06/05/2026 17:06

I mean it depends. I got a phone number when my parents paid for a plan in my teens, which I don’t use anymore as they took it back when I started paying for my own. But I’ve had the same one since I started paying.

mindutopia · 06/05/2026 17:06

I’m using my first one in the UK, yes. I’ve lived in 2 other countries (birth country and another for work) before this, so I had mobile numbers in both of those. But I’ve had this one probably 17 years now.

SamphiretheTervosaur · 06/05/2026 17:06

Yes. My mobile number will be 30 years old in July.

busyd4y · 06/05/2026 17:06

Yes, I can't remember anyone ever telling me they'd changed their phone number, I guess I assumed everyone kept the same one

ChessieFL · 06/05/2026 17:07

Not quite my first number, but I’ve had this one for at least 20 years.

H202too · 06/05/2026 17:07

Mines since 2004 but wasn't my first.

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2026 17:08

Yes. DH and I bought a mobile phone to share (imagine that now!) back in the summer of 1999. It was a tiny little Nokia, and we used to argue over whose turn it was to have the phone!

Not long after, he got his own phone and I kept the original one with the number transferred into my name. I've still got that number and he still has his from about the year 2000. I haven't a clue how many different handsets it's been transferred to over the years.

muststopscrolling · 06/05/2026 17:11

I still have the same number approx 30+ years.

Foughties · 06/05/2026 17:20

Yes. Big up the BT Cellnet!

EdinaTheConfessor · 06/05/2026 17:22

Not quite, but only because I moved to a different country. I have had my current number for 25 years though.

Tillow4ever · 06/05/2026 17:29

I’m on my second but I didn’t want to give up my first. I got my first phone on Vodafone back in the days where it cost you to call other networks. My boyfriend was on BT cellnet. When I got a months phone bill for £120, I realised it would be cheaper to run 2 phones til my contract expired so that’s what I did. I ended up sticking with the second phone and cancelling the first contract, despite service being better on Vodafone. Still with O2 on the same number now, but I’ll be changing next year due to their mobile internet signal having dropped to almost completely unavailable in my town.

Perrygreen · 06/05/2026 17:31

Yes, almost 30yrs here.
I had the extra '7' added back in the day too.

woowu · 06/05/2026 17:34

No, I have changed mine a few times over the years due to a lost pay as you go phone, toxic people and too many scam calls.

Savvysix1984 · 06/05/2026 17:36

Yes back in 1996/7

yeesh · 06/05/2026 17:40

I’ve had mine since the late 90’s, still don’t remember it though 😂

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/05/2026 17:44

Yes, mine was originally 04 then it changed to 07.

I bought it late 90’s BT Cellnet from a tiny consession stand, literally a couple of tables pushed together in our local co-op department store. I was allowed to choose my number from a paper sheet on a clipboard!
God I feel old.

Girlwithapple · 06/05/2026 17:47

I still have my first number too! I got my first BT cellnet phone when I started my first job, so mid 90's. I was so annoyed when they changed the code from 04 to 077!!

Luteil · 06/05/2026 17:50

Yes. I got it in 1998, when I moved into a bedsit with no landline, and I needed to stay in touch with work to sort out shifts. It was a big brick thing with an actual aerial that I needed to pull out.

I have phone numbers transferred from all the sims I had over the years too, sometimes I look at them and have no idea who they are.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/05/2026 18:00

Yes my phone had an Ariel you pulled out. Haha. It only made calls, no texts or anything. It was bug and certainly didn’t fit in my pocket.

Tenniswhites · 06/05/2026 18:06

Yes, got my first mobile in 1996. It’s the only number I can remember now!

GreyCarpet · 06/05/2026 18:10

Yes. I didn't get my first mobile until 1999 and I've still got that number.
