Is it daft that I'm nearly crying?

Weekend Freedom GIF by grizlor

My DS is 3 years and nearly 3 months old. He's on the pathway for assessment for autism. MmHe's basically not got any words yet . However for the past two days when he wants to get my attention he's started repeating momomomom. As soon as I heard it the first time I got tears in my eyes because obviously I was starting to believe I'd never hear the word mom at all😢 I've honestly never felt so proud and emotional at all. Every time I hear it I get such a pang in my heart😊 haven't got friends so just wanted someone to know, I know I'm a dafty😂

Totally get it. My 2.5 year old says no words yet but he occasionally makes the mumumumumum sound and it’s SO nice to hear it, even if I’m unsure he actually means mum!

How lovely!! What a great day.

Im sorry to hear that you don’t have off line friends. Any chance you could connect with other mums with ND children / support groups? A trouble shared is a trouble halfed and all that.

In the meantime I’m delighted for you.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 28/11/2025 16:47

Aww how lovely, enjoy.
The gif is apt 😁

Piony · 28/11/2025 16:47

Oh amazing, I am so thrilled for you.

I was welling up with pride last night when my 16 year old helped himself to a mince pie! For us that is huge.

MarxistMags · 28/11/2025 16:48

How very Wonderful for you. 😊 X

socool · 28/11/2025 16:48

You have me crying now too. In a good way. 👋👋👋

Gotback · 28/11/2025 16:50

So pleased for you both 😘

Anyusernamewilldo8963 · 28/11/2025 16:51

Been there and absolutely cried!! Without pissing on your chips I want you to take this feeling and this memory and bottle it, in a few years when you are soooooo sick of him shouting "mum" and never shutting up and you are ready to burst your own eardrums to get some peace, take the bottle out and remember this feeling, it will help keep you sane lol with two autistic DC we have the privilege of celebrating a lot of milestones that other parents take for granted so start yourself a wee ritual of how you want to celebrate each and every one, mine is a wee proud cry in the bathroom followed by a hot chocolate 🥰

It's amazing isn't it how something that most parents take for granted is such a huge thing for you. I will hope for you that your little one starts saying more and more. It's such a beautiful thing to hear any word, but especially heartening when it's mom😊

I think it's definitely something I should probably do as I really don't have anyone I can talk to about any concerns. Thank you for the advice 😊

Aw this has warmed my heart! I remember when my ds (diagnosed autistic) said he loved me for the first time - it took him an age due to his stutter. I remember when he told me without stuttering which had me in tears, he was taller than me by this point and put his arm around me.

Enjoy these precious moments op - no matter how big or small

Love this 😁 it's ridiculous how much I'd love to hear him waffling on and doing my head in with constant chatter😂
