Hardest age for teenage girls

I have a 14.5-year old girl.

The last 18 months have been incredibly difficult for her (and so for us). Mood all over the place, etc.

It is starting to feel just a little easier at the moment, I think. Like she's feeling a bit more stable and positive, and sort of coming back to us a bit. Is it premature to start feeling a bit hopeful?

What age did people find that their DDs found most difficult?

TIA

13-15 is the worse. You are nearly there.

Thinking about it, yes the worst age for my daughter was 13-15. Added to the usual hormones and those difficulties she also had poor mental health and other health issues that hadn’t been diagnosed yet or even properly addressed. Oh and national lockdowns. She’s come through the other side now and is a much happier, more content person than I thought she’d be a few years ago.

Your daughter will come out the other side soon enough and be happier for it. You’ll look back and be amazed.

I always say you couldn’t pay me enough money to relive ages 13-15. Just so difficult to exist. Every emotion, good or bad is so extreme. Everything is changing. You’re stuck between childhood and adulthood. So much pressure to do well at school etc. Peer pressure about romance, sex, drugs, alcohol, friendship groups.

Oh, thank you all. This is definitely giving me some hope. The last 18 months have left me reeling.

I found 17/18 the absolute worst. This is where what seemed like pure hate came ... but it was down to exams, uni plans, driving, leaving home. Massive changes.

Mind you, she was awful at 12/18 months and a perfect 2&3 year old so I don't want to panic you 🤣

Yes, I know they'll all be different. I suppose I just want someone to say it's reasonably likely that she and we will find life easier soon-ish.

I hope things are going well with your DD now

Although thinking about it, DS is almost 16 and seems to be coming out of a 2 year awful phase that has almost destroyed me (and yes, that did coincide with DD’s phase 😭).

It can feel so brutal sometimes, can't it? Glad to hear awful phase coming to an end...

For me personally, age 10-14 was utter hell. By 15 things were getting better, and by 16 much much better. I feel so sorry for girls that age and I would never go back!! But it passes.

Sorry you had such a rough time. It's so true - being a teenage girl can be utterly horrendous
