I just can't have a lie in anymore.

I wake up at 6am. Every bloody morning.

It's Saturday, I have nothing to do for hours. My kids are all teens and won't be up till I wake them. DH would sleep till 1pm if I let him

I want to be asleep 😂

I’m the same. I always wake up before 7am and if I need to get up for a pee after 5am I can never get back to sleep. Its so frustrating. It suits me to be awake early for my job and I’m naturally an early bird but I would love to sleep until 9am on the odd occasion when I have no plans.

Plankingplanks · 01/07/2023 06:42

I hear you. I actually stayed asleep until 8am one day this week and it felt like a lay in!!

I have to take myself for a wee regularly through the night and always need a wee around 6 and so here I am wide awake.

It's actually a bit soul destroying, I'm so tired all the time but don't sleep!!

Thorinfling · 01/07/2023 06:43

I'll see your 6am and raise you 5am. And my dog sleeps in with the kids so I have no reason at all to be awake!

It's so annoying I agree. I think I'll just get up and have a quiet cup of tea in the garden, try to enjoy the peace.

treacledan71 · 01/07/2023 06:44

Same here. I end up dropping off watching the TV in the afternoon sometimes as catches up with me. Then I can't sleep on night but still wake up early.

Catsmere · 01/07/2023 06:55

I wake up at dawn. In winter that means nearly 7.30, but in summer 6am. I can't get a lie-in past 8.30 anyway, I have to be up, feed the cats and grab breakfast so I can then get my mother up - it takes minimum 45 minutes to get her sorted and ready for breakfast.

Yahyahs22 · 01/07/2023 06:57

Kids wake me up at 5:30 on the dot. Every.single.morning.

I'm so tired

Binbonboomf · 01/07/2023 07:01

I have to point out the pup doesn't wake me up. I wake her up. Then she goes right back to sleep 😐

Yes, some times I was at 5am. Never later than 6.45

The whole house is snoring and I'm actually feeling really tired but I just won't be able to go back to sleep.

It's so bloody annoying.

Same here. I dont remember the last time I slept beyond 8am. Like a PP said, great for work but on the weekends, it is a bit annoying. It's happened in the last few years and I am about to turn 40. Is it an age thing?

I remember those days :( Can you put something on the TV downstairs and try and doze?

Same. Somewhere between 5 and 6 am, usually, sometimes even 4.30. I am often the only person in the house and I don't have a dog! I would love to have an occasional lie in, but it just seems impossible, so I just get up and sit downstairs with a cup of tea and do bits and pieces, and then go to bed at 9 pm if I have to!

dubyalass · 01/07/2023 07:05

Is it an age thing?

Yes, if you're in your 40s/50s. One of the delights of perimenopause. I don't think I've had more than six hours' sleep for years. Used to be able to sleep in until 10am but not any more, it's currently 6am or earlier if I'm really unlucky.

orangegato · 01/07/2023 07:06

I’m the same, between 5 and 6. Exhausted as well, if my body needs sleep why not 7 or 8! I have no pets or children and I haven’t had an alarm set for months so I don’t deserve this 😩

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/07/2023 07:06

Yup, can't seem to manage more than about 5-6 hours sleep a night. DH and I are away for weekend, and there's no kids or cat to disturb me - and I've still been awake since 5.30.

DH is snoring away beside me, it's not bloody fair!!

MissyB1 · 01/07/2023 07:06

Same! Drives Dh mad that I can’t lie in! I’m awake by 6. I go down and make a cup of tea. It’s frustrating though, I wish I could sleep later.

GHxx · 01/07/2023 07:09

I have dogs and it means one of us is always up early so both of us are awake. We have a toddler too and this morning I managed to feed them and let them out without him waking which felt like such an achievement yet I’ve still been awake since 6 🙄

devildeepbluesea · 01/07/2023 07:14

I’ve been awake for over an hour and now on my 2nd coffee in bed. I love it! Always been an early bird. DDog and I will go for a walk soon.

Unless I’m out or have a drink in front of the telly I’m always in bed by 8.30pm, read a bit then asleep well before 10. It just suits me.

DD is 10 now and getting harder to wake. Entering the difficult years for me, having found the earlier wakings a breeze!

ilikeeggs · 01/07/2023 07:14

I feel you, I’ve been awake since 5:45 but both kids are still asleep! I can never fall back to sleep anymore.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 01/07/2023 07:14

Fucking neighbour let’s his diesel 3.5t van sit idling for ages as he scrolls porn/social media on his phone before he tootles off to work. Was out there 15 mins at 6am. Chug fucking chug…

now he has gone, I have had two wees and a poo. My bowel and bladder now think it’s time to get up!

Bubbles254 · 01/07/2023 07:18

It is normally 4 something or if I am lucky 5 something for me.

What I would like to know with the perimenopause is whether if gets better once you come out the other side or if early morning wakings are permanent now.

allsogreen · 01/07/2023 07:21

yes, same here. Imlate 40s. I spent years when the kids were little and getitng me up at crack of dawn every day dreaming of the days they would no longer wake me and I could lie in. Now they are teenagers and they dont surface till lunch time at wekends, yet I am always up by 7am at the latest on the weekend. (usually actually up between 5.30 and 6!) A few weeks ago I slept until 8 on a Saturday and it actually made me wonder if I was ill!

BlueClues · 01/07/2023 07:24

I’m the same, it’s my day off today and was looking forward to a lie in and was awake awake at 6.15 😭

I slept till 9.30 recently for the first time in years, my DP said he kept coming to check on me because he wasn’t sure if I was unconscious 😂

Marlaysydney12 · 01/07/2023 07:25

Listen to a podcast or audio book in bed. Very relaxing and you might nod off again.

Ohmych · 01/07/2023 07:30

I'm the same I think my body clock is broken after getting up at 4am for work. I woke up before 6 this morning.

SybilWrites · 01/07/2023 07:31

Do you have to get up with the puppy OP, can you take it in turns with your DH? Would you be able to sleep then? For me - I'm incapable of lying in. Last night I didn't set my alarm, decided to give early morning yoga a miss, and still woke up at 6.30! The joys of perimenopause - this is quite late for me, it can be 4.30 so I feel quite pleased today with 6.30

I don't mind it though - I have my coffee, a dog (who shouldn't be in my room) and a cat all in my bed with me.
