‘The number you have called is currently unavailable’ meaning?

I’m currently trying to get in touch with a friend. I’ve not been able to get hold of her since Monday evening and she appears to have deleted WhatsApp, her phone has been off since then but now the message has changed to ‘The Number you have called is currently unavailable’. She is quite vulnerable but doesn’t really use social media and doesn’t live near to me so I can’t even go and check on her.

Does anyone know what this means as I’m starting to get a bit worried about her?

She could have deactivated her number or simply removed the sim/turned her phone off. Has she been online elsewhere at all? Can you perhaps drop round and see how she is or ask her family etc if they’ve heard from her?

Oh crap just read not local
To you. I’d contact family if you know any of them or a partner?

She doesn’t live near me sadly. I do have a fairly good idea where she lives, but don’t really have other means of contacting her. She sounded fine on Monday and we didn’t have any kind of fall out. A few hours ago her phone was saying it was switched off but now it’s giving me the message above.

Maybe her number has been disconnected or the phone has no access to wifi? Unavailable means (I think) not being on a network, rather than the phone simply being switched off.

My DH has a really shitty phone that turns itself off frequently and claims to be unavailable.
Last week I asked him why he hadn’t answered his phone when I called from Tesco’s
He said it hadn’t rang, I phoned it while I stood next to him and got the unavailable message.
We were going to town yesterday to replace it but didn’t.
OP, it could be nothing sinister

If you're really worried and there is a history of her being vulnerable etc, you could request the local police do a 'welfare check'

I’ve just sent her a message asking if she’s ok and it appears to have gone through. Fingers crossed.

Have you blocked your number - when I’ve set my number to private when making work calls then sometimes I get this when I ring certain numbers.

I don’t think I have. It’s changed now back to saying it’s switched off. I suspect she just doesn’t want to be contacted by anyone at the moment, but it’s still a worry. Hopefully I’ll hear from her soon.
