Polti Vaporella Quick Q100 review: powerful, simple and great for hard water areas

A straightforward steam iron that gets on with the job. It’s quick to heat, easy to handle and strong on creases, but you’ll need to rely on your own judgement more than you might like.

How I tested

I used the Polti Vaporella Quick Q100 on typical household ironing loads, including tea towels, linen, T-shirts and school shirts, to see how it handled a mix of heavier fabrics and everyday items. I took detailed notes on how quickly it heated up, how easily it glided over different materials and how well it tackled deep creases, particularly on linen and cotton. I also assessed comfort during longer sessions, how intuitive the controls felt without fabric guides, and how straightforward it was to maintain, especially given I live in a hard water area and regularly rely on self-clean functions.

This is a straightforward iron that gets the basics right. It heats quickly, glides smoothly and deals with stubborn creases without needing repeated passes.

It suits busy households where ironing is a regular job. The lightweight design and simple controls make it easy to work through a pile, and it's powerful enough to get through creased clothing without breaking your stride.

The downside is that there's no ready indicator and no fabric labels, so you’re relying more on your own judgement than you would with some other models.

What works well here is the practicality. It’s easy to maintain, especially in hard water areas, and it feels sturdy enough for regular use. The self-clean indicator a great addition and the self-cleaning function makes clearing limescale build up a doddle.

If you want a dependable, no-fuss iron that keeps things simple and works well, this is worth considering. You just need to be happy trusting your instincts when it comes to temperature.

What's the Polti Vaporella Quick like to use day-to-day?

Set-up is simple. It works straight from the tap, which makes life easier, especially in a hard water area. The self-clean indicator light and calc clean setting are genuinely useful. They take some of the hassle out of maintenance and help keep it working as it should.

It heats up quickly, so I could get started without waiting around. There’s no ready indicator, though, to show when it’s fully up to temperature. I found myself doing a quick test pass to check, which isn’t a huge issue but does feel a bit old-fashioned.

I tested it on tea towels, linen, T-shirts and school shirts, and it coped well with all of them. Linen, which usually takes a bit more work, smoothed out without much effort.

The lightweight feel makes a real difference over longer sessions. It’s easy to move around and doesn’t leave your arm aching halfway through. The temperature is controlled via a simple min to max dial, but there are no fabric guides on the dial, so you need to know your settings or adjust as you go.

Maintenance is one of the better things about it. The self-clean indicator tells you when it needs attention and, alongside the calc clean setting, makes it a good fit for hard water areas. Add the sturdy base and auto shut-off, and it feels practical and easy to live with.

Is the Polti Vaporella Quick good value for money?

At £49, it sits alongside irons that offer more features on paper, such as digital controls or clearer fabric settings. This one is more about ease and consistency.

In everyday use, it does enough to earn its price tag. It’s quick, effective and comfortable to use, which matters more than extra features if you iron regularly. Proper limescale management is another plus if you live in a hard water area.

Polti is a trusted Italian brand, who actually invented steam generator irons back in the 1970s. If you like more guidance or prefer precise controls, it may feel a bit basic for the money. If you want something reliable that gets on with the job, it’s a sensible buy.
