Brie.

Was that a mistake?

I was told to buy;

protein (bought chicken, eggs, Cheddar and brie) and fruit (bought mainly apples) veg and salad.

What do I with the Brie? Throw it ina salad at lunchtime?

Am trying to relearn how to eat, all advice appreciated Smile

No idea about Brie but cheese is very fatty as well as proteinous. I think I made that word up

Apples have three tablespoons of sugar in them. Not great but then all fruits like that really.

What will you be eating in the day? Talk me through your plan please?

Well I plan to skip breakfast because I hate eating early and never feel hungry till about 11. So it seems a waste of calories.

For lunch it's salad ( I bought lettuce bags, radishes, cooked beetroot, cherry toms, cucumber) of jacket potato with beans.

Dinners will be

Mon - Homemade chicken curry. Lots of veg and lentils.
Tues - Kedegree
Wed - Chicken cacciatore
Thurs - Jacket potato with beans (will have a salad for lunch this day)
Fri - http://www.itv.com/lorraine/brazilian-bikini-diet/healthy-fish-and-chips/ Healthy fish and chips

Snacks will be an egg size cup of mixed fruit, nuts and seeds. Or an apple.

Drinks will be water and tea.

Strong, hard, cheeses are generally a better option fat wise.

Brie is high in calories isn't it?

I was so confused by the whole 'buy cheese for weight loss' advice that I stood in front of the cheese cabinet dazed.

I had no idea what I was doing.

I'd avoid jp and beans in the evening just because it's carbs and won't get burned off til morning. Also beams are very carby. I've practically given up on them.

I see what you mean about the breakfast thing. I used to be like that. Now I have peanut butter on toast and a banana.

What the duck is kedegree?

I thought hard cheeses had more fat and soft cheeses had more water

I think you have to decide what sort of diet you are doing....fat and protein is low carbing, so most of the rest of your meal plan will put the mockers on that!

Mostly during the week I have scrambled egg made with cream and butter for breakfast...I don't do lunch if I m at work, but if home then somebits and bobs like, olives, ham, celery and cream cheese, then even ing meal is meat/fish/cheese with some sort of salad or cauli and green veg (not peas!)

I don't think I could low carb.

So I need to cut down on fats and protein then?

Protein will fill you better than any carb will and give you better cleaner energy. High protein and low carb isn't hard.

Well, not the way I do it. I mean veg is carb but I eat a lot of it. You don't need a lot of carbs but you do need them.

A slice or 2 of brie sliced into a salad isn't going to make you gain weight. Sitting down and eating the entire wedge will, so go easy on it.

But I love pasta.

And rice.

How extreme is low carb?

What do all you low carbers eat on an average day?

I don't think I'm low carb per se but I am mindful of them. If I have them it's for lunch rather than tea.

My extremely varied diet consists of

Breakfast - two slices peanut butter on toast and one big banana

Lunch - chicken and salad/veg soup

Dinner - chicken and veg/gammon and veg

I have snacks of whatever and whenever before 2pm.

You can eat any cheese (and anything) as long as you eat it in moderation.

The most recent research says it doesn't matter what time of the day you eat, so don't worry about having a main meal in the evening.

Personally I think portion sizes usually have a lot of answer for; if you're serious about changing the way you eat out might be a good idea to buy some accurate kitchen scales and weigh and log everything you eat. Myfitnesspal.com is a good website to use. To work lot how many calories you should be eating, Google 'TDEE calculator'. Put all your info in and it'll give you a figure. Eat around 80% of it to lose weight at a safe pace, or eat 100% to maintain your current weight.

I tried low carb. The problem is that when you stop the weight piles on. I have stopped eating low fat versions of things and stopped calorie counting. It's hard changing the way I 'diet' but it never worked long term.

I have issues with food but I am trying to get out of the diet trap! So I eat when hungry and eat normal proper food but be healthy most of the time. Today I had oats in full fat Greek yoghurt with dried berries, lunch egg mayo sandwich on whole wheat bread and 2 babybels, tea was salad with mayo and vegetable and halloumi skewers marinated in olive oil and chilli powder. No need to snack as full fat protein will keep you fuller longer.

It will take me longer to lose weight but I hope it will stay off!

MrsGSR, do you have a link to that?

I always find if I have big meal at night I'm bloated and stodgy. If I have a small meal my tummy stays reasonably flat Grin

I use MFP to calorie count but eat like Perfectly describes. I think the most important thing in losing weight long term is finding a way of eating or pattern of eating that suits you. That could be low carb, low fat (though this is going out if fashion), paleo, portion control, WW, Slimming World, etc, etc. All diets work if you can stick to them.

I've chosen to be gentle about it and get used to eating a bit less but still enjoy my meals. It feels easy to do and I've lost 1.5st It's not coming off quickly but my weight is going down.

Thats made me feel more positive better. It's early days for me so glad I should see results.

McBear I can't find the article at the minute. If you've found smaller evening meals work for you then obviously stick to that.
Generally, any changes you make to your diet need to be given about 3 weeks to work. To lose weight you need a calorie deficit, but the easiest way to achieve that is different for everyone. I eat later in the day as that's when I get hungry!
