Which outfit would you wear to a wedding at a country house hotel?

Dear Style gurus, Can I ask what outfit you’d wear to a wedding please, country house hotel. I’m mid 50s.

my family are divided. I think the blue dress, my husband and daughter think the khaki one, the stripy skirt and top is no one’s favourite but liked by all.

I’m torn, and I’m not usually, simply as my family don’t like the blue one and I do. I suspect as it’s not my usual style..

Definitely blue, stunning! But not with those shoes I’m afraid, the colour is too jarring and blocks for just a delicate print and style.

ForPinkDuck · 14/05/2026 12:31

Voted blue but id wear the strip one if it is a cold rainey day.

Thank you, yes I think you’re right about the shoes, I have a nude pair, I can wear which may work better,

Unhelpful, but I think you look gorgeous in all 3. I love the blue too but agree a different shoe would be better. You look incredible in the khaki - depends whether you want to draw attention to yourself or not, because everyone will be complimenting you on your arms!

EmailsaysOOO · 14/05/2026 12:33

Striped or blue. Really love the striped one and shows your figure beautifully. Have fun, whichever you go for.

I was going to say the khaki one because of her fab arms/shoulders!

Thank you that’s really kind and no I don’t really want to, I think that’s the issue with the khaki for me, I feel a little bare and exposed in it. I want to look guest appropriate and not stand out.

I don’t love the colour of the khaki one but the cut is great and you look fantastic.

the stripey one needs to be burnt immediately.

Mosaic80 · 14/05/2026 12:36

I voted the blue as it’s nice and also most appropriate I’d say. I prefer the khaki on you though, it’s stunning so I can see why your family are suggesting that one!

Ha! That made me laugh, it’s actually lovely in real life. Might make it worse for you but it’s got a very subtle gold thread running through it, which makes it brighter. 😂

You look great in both the olive and the blue but the blue is definitely more country house wedding. You’ll need something warm to go over it like a little jacket. Or a thermal vest 😆

The stripy one looks… warm?

unsevered67 · 14/05/2026 12:40

I actually don’t like the blue one. The other two are lovely. Your arms are amazing

Yes I’ve a navy velvet blazer that works. And yes, the striped one could be warm in the evening.

its a weird one, usually I’m confident and my family very supportive, it’s the first time I’ve put something on and they’ve both went, hmm, no, don’t like that. My daughter said, no not that, that’s a bit um, eclectic, and my husband said, can I be honest, I don’t really like that. They both think the khaki one. Where as I’m thinking the blue is more appropriate and I don’t want to look like a wanna be ageing bridesmaid…

I like the stripy one please don't burn it 😃 the blue one is my favourite it is lovely. I am not keen on khaki as a colour so the khaki is a.meh

ChasbutnotDave · 14/05/2026 13:22

I like the blue best for a summery, country house hotel wedding.
The khaki one looks stunning but I'd go with the blue.

I'm not too keen on the stripy outfit as I think it does nothing for your figure. I think the top would look better with a different skirt/trousers and the skirt would look better with a different top maybe.

MsAlignment · 14/05/2026 13:28

Definitely the blue in this context. It will be beautiful in the photos against stone and greenery.

The others are too … urban.

minipie · 14/05/2026 13:36

I don’t think the khaki one is wannabe ageing bridesmaid! It’s a lovely dress, looks great, a bit more urban / drinks party but could be weddingified with summery accessories, maybe in a light gold.

If YOU don’t feel comfortable in the blue then don’t wear it but it looks great - I suspect your family members are just reacting to it not being what you usually wear.

brokee · 14/05/2026 13:51

I like the blue. The stripy one looks identical to my sons inn keeper nativity costume 👀

Yes I suspect it’s just it’s so different to my normal style, I do feel comfortable in it…

Khaki one looks amazing on you so I’d definitely go with that one.

Beachforever · 14/05/2026 13:59

I also think you are carrying yourself better in the khaki one. Probably because you can see that it suits you so well. With gold accessories, it would be perfect for a wedding.

Papyrophile · 14/05/2026 14:02

I personally dislike the blue dress quite intensely. I prefer the khaki, but could understand you choosing the striped outfit depending on the weather.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 14/05/2026 14:04

The Khaki one shows off your amazing figure which will be why DD and DH love it, and why I would wear it if I had your arms OP!

Ineedanewsofa · 14/05/2026 14:06

OMG if I had your arms I’d never wear sleeves!
That aside, the khaki is my fave but I do take your point about feeling a little exposed. The blue is a safe and appropriate choice.
I’m afraid I agree with PP who said you should burn the stripy outfit…

BigBrownBoogyingBear · 14/05/2026 14:07

I LOVE the khaki one! You look amazing in it.

I don't like the blue. I'm not keen on delicate florals and I'd feel sweaty and constrained with those sleeves and neckline 😆 It's does have a country house wedding vibe but I'd still wear the khaki instead.

(And the khaki isn't remotely ageing bridesmaid, and won't detract attention from the bride!)
