AIBU?

to wonder where the heck CurrysChris (in the vein of OcadoAnnie) is when you need him/her? Appalling customer service.

So, this week, I ordered a washing machine from Currys. Being not terribly handy myself (see previous threads!) I also ordered installation.

Today, my washing machine was delivered but the delivery drivers (from the manufacturer) advised me that they do not install machines on behalf of currys and Currys would be sending someone themselves.

2 phone calls and almost an hour on the phone later, it transpires that Currys employ precisely NOT ONE PERSON who is capable or paid to install washing machines. Is anyone else surprised by this? I certainly was...

It's not that they won't install my washing machine today, they won't install it EVER. But that's ok, because they'll refund the £20 I paid for a service that they never had any intention whatsoever of providing.

Plus DS is getting sicker and sicker in hospital, likely to need tube feeding and a blood transfusion and to be honest, I could do without having a bloody great washing machine still in its packaging in the middle of my kitchen floor. I could do with it cleaning clothes.

Things must have changed because when we got our washer (two years ago) it was delivered and installed - on a Sunday - I can remember them setting the washer going and me being surprised how quiet it was

Massive sympathy.

However, installing a washing machine is actually pretty easy: plug and play. Follow the diagrams and do it yourself. or get a local teenager to do it for food or cash.

Then that will be ONE less thing on your list, and you'll be able to move on.

Bilbo it's at the wrong end of my kitchen. I cannot get it in to the right place by myself. Not that my kitchen is enormous but it's bloody heavy.

That's shit of them. Have you got a handy neighbour? This is the sort of thing neighbours come to our door and ask dh to do! He's not a plumber but they see he's a man with a van and therefore useful. Which he is.

Or a local facebook page you could ask? It is apparently quite simple especially if it's a straight swap, but not something I'd attempt

Sorry about your ds, hope he's on the mend soon.

Un-Mumsnetty ((Hug)) Trazzles.

Appalling customer service at the best of times but given your current situation it's clearly the last thing you need. Sad

£20 is not the point. The point is that, had you known they weren't going to plumb it in, you would probably have bought the whole thing from somewhere else that could provide that service.

Can you find someone who is willing to shout a Currys' Customer Service on your behalf? Or help you get it plumbed in? Ideally both.

Bet you've got lots of friends who have been saying "if there's anything we can do". Now's the chance to take them up on it. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will be very pleased to have the chance to help.

Make ahuge complaint. I can give you the CEO email address if you need it.
I bought an electric cooker for my nan last year. They told me it wouldn't need to be plumbed in or whatever it is?
You just plugged it in.

That was a huge lie. They also left it in the box in the middle of her kitchen. And told me there was no one who would ever be able to install it and I should pay someone.

3 days later it was installed and £75 compensation.

And much love to you and DS. I've been following your thread, and I light my candle for you every day xxx

Tantrums yes please to the CEO address. That's my next port of call. I'm waiting for a callback (which is already late) from someone who should apparently miraculously be able to book me in an installation, despite them not employing anyone who is able to install it... it needs to be installed today and I am not accepting anything less.

Yy, you can probably make a family friend very happy by giving them something useful to do.

Re Currys, they're being wankbadgers, and you could amuse yourself by composing a formal complaint when you're next faced with a pile of dull magazines at the hospital?

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/10/2012 11:53

That is cheeky.

I bet some manufacturers do install. So currys take the money for installation knowing that some will automatically be installed at no cost to currys. You just happen to have chosen a brand that don't. It is only a 10min job in most cases although it does depend a little bit on how your waste pipe is plumbed.

I'd come and do it for you if you were in the midlands.

I've got the telephone number for the complaints department. It's not the number you ring normally, it's another one I got.
I don't know if it will help.

08445616372. It's the customer action team for Dixon group. Might be of some use?

Thanks Tantrums, I've been on the case on Twitter as well. They have at least acknowledged me. Still no response over the phone or from CEO.

Come on Currys. This is your idea of customer service???

Report
Trazzletoes · 13/10/2012 15:19

eosmum, thanks, but I'm in England.

Had just had an offer from a friend's DH to do it tomorrow evening, when Curry's rang back (and put me on hold for half an hour - literally) and confirmed that they're coming at some time tomorrow for installation.

It should not have taken 2 hours of me being on the phone to them, this thread, tweets and an e-mail to the CEO, but tomorrow I should be able to wash DD's sicky sheets. Finally.

I'm glad it's finally sorted. It's all wrong that it took so much time and effort.
Hope you and dd are feeling better soon.

Look after yourself trazzle

Lots of love to you, your DS, DD and DH.

Haha who knows? There is still a complaint outstanding with the CEO so we shall see. I would very much like my calls refunded. 2 hours is a long time to spend on the phone, plus obviously I need to bill them for my time. I am not cheap.
