Our verdict

Designed with toddlers and preschoolers in mind, the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline is a great first garden trampoline with lots of thoughtful safety features to give parents peace of mind while little ones play.

While the minimum age suggested by the manufacturer for this trampoline is 3, our tester Zoe’s one-year-old also had a blast using the trampoline - supervised, of course. The low-to-the-ground entrance and cleverly designed jump mat and safety net make it very toddler friendly, while maximising the space for jumping - meaning bigger kids can join in too.

At under £150, it’s definitely at the budget end of the trampoline market, with the similarly designed TP Toys 6ft Hip Hop Junior Trampoline retailing at £240. Our tester thought the trampoline definitely represented good value for money.

How we tested

Our tester Zoe let her one- and four-year-olds loose on the trampoline in her smallish garden over the course of a year. She took note of how easy the trampoline was to set up, whether her children could use it safely and independently and how it stood up to use and weather over the seasons.

How easy is the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline to set up?

Compared to other trampolines, this is incredibly quick and easy to build. Our tester said it took one person about 30 minutes to follow the instructions and get the trampoline up and bouncing.

Made from galvanised steel and tough plastic, the pieces slot easily together with minimal screws needed.

How does the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline compare to other trampolines?

The Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline is designed with younger kids in mind. With bright, appealing colours, a low-to-the-ground jumping mat and a safe but easy-for-small-fingers zip entrance, there are plenty of pre-schooler-friendly details. Compared to the 8ft TP Challenger, the jump mat of the Costway is almost 20cm lower at 42.5cm off the ground.

To maximise space, the net is positioned outside of the spring pad, and the springs are completely covered with soft mats which connect seamlessly with the jump surface. Most other trampolines on the market have the net inside of the spring pad, leaving an outer ring kids love to walk around - fine for older kids but not so safe for little ones who aren’t as steady on their feet.

Another feature that sets this trampoline apart are the sturdy plastic legs. The manufacturer says the trampoline is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, so if you have a massive playroom this might just be the indoor trampoline of your dreams.

Our tester Zoe opted for an outdoor setting, and loved that her 4-year-old could operate the entrance on his own.

“It works well as it keeps them safe and is easy for them to zip and unzip.”

What is the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline like to use?

With the trampoline installed in her garden for a year, Zoe told us it gets used at least once a week all year round. Thanks to the generous jumping area, there’s plenty of room for kids to bounce together.

“3 kids have all bounced in it at the same time and it’s still going strong.”

As with any outdoor trampoline, it did get dirty and collect fallen leaves over the colder months, and Zoe thought it could benefit from a cover to minimise the need to clean it.

Although the instructions say adults shouldn’t bounce on this trampoline, Zoe did admit to having a sneaky go and said it felt strong enough. Unperturbed by the bright, toddler-friendly design, her 8-year-old niece also enjoys playing on the trampoline with her younger cousins.

How safe is the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline?

Most trampolines are suitable from age 6 and up, so in order to make a trampoline safe for younger children, Costway have included plenty of safety features. All the metal parts are completely covered with foam, to prevent bumped heads and little feet getting caught between parts.

Don’t be fooled by the bright plastic legs either, the frame is made from tough, heavy galvanised steel. Under reinforced, padded fabric there are strong springs built to take up to 125kg in weight. The PP jumping mat is wear-resistant and the safety net is strengthened against becoming mis-shapen.

“Feels really safe and sturdy and plenty of room for 2-3 small kids to use. We love it.”

Will the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline last?

This trampoline feels tough enough to last a good few years. There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s designed for toddlers and preschoolers, so it will eventually be grown out of - at which time you might want to replace it with a more traditional trampoline like the similarly-price Zero Gravity Ultima 4.

“Definitely for a few more years. Our 8 year old niece loves using it too so even older kids will get use out of it.”

In terms of how hardwearing the trampoline is, our tester was really impressed with how it withstood all the seasons out in the open.

“Has been left out in rain, snow and sun and still looks great - no sign of wear or fade etc.”

Is the Costway 7ft Toddler Trampoline good value for money?

With a price of £129.99 on Amazon at the time of writing, it’s comparable in price to our best budget trampoline, the Plum Fun Springsafe, which is suitable from age 6. In contrast, TP Toys’ Toddler Trampoline (for ages 3 and up) retails for over £100 more. However, the smaller indoor toddler trampolines like this one from Chad Valley are available at around the £60 mark.

If you’re looking for an outdoor trampoline that gives your child the space to bounce about and play with siblings, Costway’s Toddler Trampoline is a great choice that represents good value for money.
