1. BT takes online safety very seriously

We believe strongly that everyone should have the ability to use the internet in a safe and informed way. In order to do this, we have created a range of measures to help children enjoy the internet, including a wealth of information on our website and services to help keep you safe online.

The four major broadband providers in the UK, including BT, have got together to launch Internet Matters. Supported by leading experts, we've developed a new online portal for all parents to access simple, easy and practical advice to make confident, informed choices about their children's online safety.

BT Parental Controls: 

BT Parental Controls is a free service for all BT Broadband customers, allowing you to stay in control of what your family can see online. Filters apply to any device connecting to a home hub, and when connected to any of BT's 5 million UK wi-fi hotspots using a BT ID.

BT Net Protect: 

BT Net Protect Plus, powered by McAfee security, keeps customer's computer and individual's confidential information safe. Features include Firewall, virus and spyware protection, email phishing scam warning system and identity theft protection.

2. BT provides great family friendly products

Blocking nuisance calls: 

Our new home phone, the BT 6500 Nuisance Call Blocker, can help put a stop to nuisance calls. The majority come from international or unknown caller IDs, which can be easily blocked by this phone. You can also block specific numbers that you don't want to hear from again.

The phone is also packed with other great features such as built-in parental controls which allow you to control different types of outgoing calls, such as mobile or premium rate calls using a PIN on the handset, avoiding any nasty surprises on your bill.

BT has been the number one bestselling audio baby monitor brand in the UK for the last three years. We've won various awards including:

Not only do we develop products with you, our customers, in mind, we also work directly with you to make sure our products deliver what you want. We have developed great features based around parents' insight including:

  • MP3 input into the BT Pacifier Baby Monitor

3. BT supports employees

BT prides itself on being an inclusive employer and supports its employees by providing assistance on a range of things including childcare, managing pregnancy, adoption, disability and wider caring needs. We have a 'Family and You' web portal for employees to help them access help and support across all family friendly policies.

BT encourages employees to be active in their local communities and gives everyone up to three working days each year for voluntary work with a charity or for their community. It enables employees to give something back, learn new skills and share their expertise. In 2013/14 our people spent more than 46,000 days volunteering.

BT's health programme for employees - Work Fit - has won national recognition, awarded with a Big Tick by Business in the Community's (BiTC's) Responsible Business Awards 2014, in recognition of its continuing work increasing the health and wellbeing of BT employees.

4. BT has a long history of working with good causes to improve lives

BT believes in the power of communications to make a better world and brings together the best networks and technology with the expertise of our people to help businesses grow, communities flourish and individuals get more out of life. In 2013/14 they used our skills and technology to help generate £85.53 million for good causes.

This included generating more than £9m for Sport Relief by powering the telethon fundraising appeal and through our celebrity sporting challenge and enabling the Disasters Emergency Committee to respond rapidly to Typhoon Haiyan and the Syria crisis – MyDonate for Telethons and Appeals took more than £24m.

Jointly with Comic Relief, we have created a brand new charitable initiative, The Supporters Club, and raised more than £2m to help improve young people's lives using the unique power of sport, in the UK and worldwide.

We provide tailored information to support people who need more help with their communications including useful advice on topics such as Power of Attorney for people with caring responsibilities.
