Three good things happen every day
The lesson - posted on April 12 2008 at 8:56 pm by serenedays

1.  The swimming lesson

2. Coffee and cake

3. The long nap

Went for a lovely run during Son 1 aged 3 and a half’s swimming lesson.  The sun was shining, the view was great, and it wasn’t hard -  I hadn’t been out for over a week and I was expecting to struggle.  When I got back one of the other mums, whose 3 year old used to be in Son 1’s class, said hello.  Her husband died unexpectedly a few weeks ago, and I’d sent a card.  It was good to see them both out,  and to see her looking and sounding well. I said so, and she said “Well, I’ve got to give him as normal a childhood as possible.”  I’m usually hopeless at remembering how lucky I am, but seeing the two of them is a great help.

I didn’t get breakfast, so on our way back The Man pulled over at the Beach Cafe.  We hummed and ha-d in the car over whether to go in.  Son 2 aged 6m and 4w was asleep in his car seat, and I was wearing 2 sports bras from my run.  If he woke up thirsty - very likely, the poolside is boiling hot - I couldn’t feed him and I hadn’t brought him any food.  So we decided against it, and The Man pulled off.  Whereupon a commanding voice piped up from the back: “Come on! What’s got into you two?  You can’t give up now.”  Son 1, sensing an outside chance of a cake or a biscuit, casting his vote.  We turned back, Son 2 stayed asleep and we had a very good time.  I’ve already told The Man that it’s now a Saturday morning tradition.

This afternoon, Son 1 and The Man went back to the boat to continue removing mould and seagull mess. And Son 2 slept for more than 2 hours.  It was like the old days with Son 1.  I got more food cooked for him and got everything ready for a stir fry this evening… I did washing… I cleared up…  And I had just made myself a cup of tea when he woke up.  He was very chilled, chatty and cheerful after, which again makes me think that most of his (crying)  problems are caused by poor sleep.   I could finish there on “that makes 2 of us,” but I won’t.  This is a positive blog; I will think again of my chat from this morning and just give thanks that we are all four hearty, healthy and here.
