Following on from our previous support thread please check in here if there's any help, particularly (but not exclusively) knitting help, you need for the squares for 3girlies, who sadly lost her beloved 6-year-old dd Flora recently.

The details of the blanket project are here and it directs you to the Crafting Guide on Woolly Hugs, with specific sections for crocheters and knitters. I am still maintaining the original document mostly because I haven't got around to separating out the stuff that's already on Woolly Hugs now from the newer suggestions we've had in the last few weeks. So please, by all means do send me suggestions for new patterns or ideas.

For those of you on Ravelry and participating in the Ravellenic games, I think squares could be entered under a number of categories such as balance beads, doubleknit boxing, lace longjump among possibly some others.

Hello, just parking my bottom on the support bench.

I've ordered my rosewood circular set and getting the knitters bible stitch library from work!

Welcome, Glaikit! Hope you enjoy your circulars - we are having a bit of a trying time with the cubics, but I think you've gone for the round set?

Knitters' Bible is a great one.

bobkate was asking about doing stripes - very simplest way (assuming you are knitting every row) is: cast on 1 colour 1, knit 2 rows, then knit 2 rows in colour 2, then 2 rows in colour 1, etc etc In the second video on this page Liat shows how to carry the unused yarn up the side of the rows but you don't need to worry about that unduly for such thin stripes, esp when the edge is going to be covered anyway.

You could do stripes of 4 rows just as easily.

I'm aiming to learn how to crochet. Bought myself a hook today so there may be a few questions on the way! Wish I'd seen that link about stripes earlier though - made it all up myself and one edge looks decidedly dodgy!

Hello all, just signing in. Still way behind on the last blanket

Yes got the round ones, full set, seeing as I'm not paying! 10 years ago I got 6 bottles of jack Daniels for my birthday, along with other things, this year I'm getting a knitting book and a set of needles! Rock and roll!

Marking my place. Should I buy myself a book of squares?? Or just keep googling patterns

tribpot Do you like the cubics or prefer the rounds? I'm tempted by the cubics (new toy) but already have a round set - not sure if i can persuade dh Smile

utahforever - I love the cubics.

BUT

Soremummy has had some major problems with the 4mm ones. She's had two lots that have snapped, the second after only a handful of stitches. This seems to be a problem a few people are having, although others get on with them fine.

So if you buy some - and they are well worth trying - make sure your shop has a good returns policy. Our one will keep replacing and sending the duff one to Knitpro but obviously this is only feasible if you live nearby!

soremummy - there are so many patterns online, but the books are lovely to look at. If we're having another Leeds meetup soon (which I guess we will be with another blanket to tackle) I can bring a couple with me and you can see what you think.

Barbara - I'm watching you ...

That would be great trib. I got a reply from knit pro asking for pictures which I emailed to them. Waiting on a reply from them. Tribpot how / what way do I get photos from iPhone to upload here what's the best way of doing it. I got giddy today I ventured out we are chickenpox free at last!!!

soremummy · 03/08/2012 19:26

Ps just keep me away from crafty lol I admitted defeat and posted the crochet square today which was the same size as when I left you in Leeds that day.

soremummy - to upload directly into MN is a bit of a pain from the iPhone because the photos need to be ludicrously small.

If you don't have a Flickr account, you can create one of these and then upload the images there, linking to them from a post here, and there's a Flickr app for the iPhone which is quite nifty. You have to make the photos visible to 'public' on Flickr so you might prefer to put them here on your profile, which is still visible but you'd have to work very hard to find them if you didn't know where to look :)

Don't think I'll cope with that after being stuck with dd for 10 days. I was only gonna do it to show squares I'll show you the pics next time I see you cos think that'll be easier for me :). I'm also the proud owner of a new iPad ( my dh upgraded to new one) so i have inherited the original one

Somersaults · 03/08/2012 20:37

You could also take a photo with Instagram and post the link on here. I've done that before which was quite easy.

Yes, good point, Somersaults!

Here as a Google doc, however, are ... soremummy's squares.
