In short, if you've read this before, move one, I haven't and I'm venting!, Please feel free to add

I hadn't heard this song until tonight, and I'm a bit unsure where to post.

I know this is old, but I only just came across this song and it opened many, many painful wounds. I've searched many different ways, but I've struggled to find anything against this song, and it's normilisation of domestic violence.

I don't know what to say other than fuck me, that hurts!!

This was the first song I refused to allow my children listen to in the car. The second song was her going on about whips and chains hurting her.

I haven't heard the song in question but I can tell it's not going to be a great leap forward in women's rights given that it comes from a man who used to write about murdering his ex-wife (and get his small daughter to sing the chorus!).

I'm so very Mrs Flowers That song makes me more sad given the severe assault Rhianna suffered at the hands of Chris Brown. The public was only aware of his abuse of her because her injuries were so visible. I wonder how long he might have been hurting her...

Catwitch, thank you, even remotely knowing it's not the norm helps, I grew up in a home where emotionally provoking your partner was doable whether or not acceptable.
For me this songs sounds like someone desperate, and I actually don't know 100% if this was me or not!
Now, my partner is amazing, all I could hope for in a family, I'm so far beyond this now, but looking back hurts so much...
In this house we are honest, even when it's as low as "mummy and daddy feel sad that you want them to feel bad"

Mrs, my heart goes out to you. It sounds like you have been through absolute hell! I can absolutely understand how very triggering that song could be for you. I'm so happy you have the courage to speak about what happened to you and the impact things like lyrics have on you. Do not ever feel like you must apologise for speaking your truth..xx

mrsmc So sorry for what you have been through. I agree regarding this song. When I first listened to the lyrics I was shocked. And yet this is presented to the world as acceptable and mainstream. Worrying.
