Keira's topless shoot

Keira Knightley has posed topless and the Telegraph say it's a feminist victory for small breasted women. But surely it's a woman playing by men's rules that says that exposing ones breasts is necessary and indeed expected? Is this really a feminist victory??

Haven't seen any pics or links but if it's true, I am very disappointed in Keira

I like her, what a shame if she did this

The Sun apparently used the shot for their page 3 today. enough said.

A few weeks ago I was talking to an actress (not a household name or Hollywood star but someone you might recognise from television) about the lack of good scripts for women. We got onto feminism and a lot of her views were quite close to radical feminism, although I don't know if she would define herself that way. I asked her if she ever expressed these views professionally and she said if she stuck to her feminist principles as an actress she would be unemployable. I wonder if it's as hard for an actress to come out as a feminist (and not a fun-fem) as it is for a leading-man type to come out as gay? I know Roseanne Barr has some radical views but she gets vilified for them and her career was never tied into looks and male-approval anyway.

Maxine Peake is set to play Hamlet. That is a bit more significant , in acting terms anyway.

AnyFucker, there is a (censured!) photo in the link in my OP, and I saw the full shot in the Sun yesterday too, as Shadows said. It's the sort of black and white photo that's supposed to look high fashion but is actually basically full on nudity (including black lace gloves Hmm).

It just struck me as if not anti-feminist, still hardly a stand for equal rights or female solidarity or anything remotely feminist I can think of.

Come on ladies, don't be sour grapes about it! This is a supremely empowering and feminist act. Because feminism is about ALL women being equally objectified, regardless of ethnicity, age or boob size! I mean, seriously, what did you think feminism was about?!

I can see the point she's trying to make, that smaller-breasted women just aren't represented in the media, and that she's putting herself out there to show the real her in the face of the photoshopping to make her breasts a more 'desirable' size.

But the fact that she feels the need to do it in the first place Confused Why do ANY boobs need to be represented?

Shes actress, she'll seek publicity, and justify it any way.its not deep.
She has potentially raised her own self esteem, debatable if that victory.personal or otherwise

"a feminist victory for small breasted women"

What a ludicrous comment.

That's about all I've got to say on it.

HumblePieMonster · 31/08/2014 21:08

I can't find anything to say. I'm just weary.

Whatever the size of her breasts, she's just another attractive woman displayed naked - for whose pleasure?

CoteDAzur · 31/08/2014 22:45

She looks like a malnourished child. Some "feminist victory" Hmm

Report
Bunbaker · 31/08/2014 22:50

No she doesn't. I look like that. and I am not malnourished.

What a bitchy thing to say.

What's a boob crumb ?

Pippioddstocking · 31/08/2014 22:55

I also look like that and consider myself very much a woman not a child !!

Does Keira think we are all thick? That she can pose naked to JUST appeal to men and the stupid male gaze and objectify herself, while trying to con women into thinking this is an ambitious thing to do and oh-so feminist??

Aargh.......

I'm sorry you took that personally. I wasn't judging her body but reacting at the contemporary ideals of "beauty" that include such an image. I very much doubt that your upper arms are thinner than the length of your nose, as appears to be the case in this photo. She does look malnourished - to me, at least.

Report
Bunbaker · 31/08/2014 23:13

She doesn't look malnourished. It's no wonder we have an obesity epidemic in this country when slim people are considered malnourished.

Report
PinkSquash · 31/08/2014 23:18

She's not a 32AA, someone give her an intervention to find her a decent bra in a correct size.

I couldn't find a picture to see what you're all talking about so put Keira Knightly topless into google image

I recommend no one else does Hmm as there is a lot of photo shopping and a lot of nude shots - and I don't believe she's posed entirely nude

I actually saw her in a film this evening and don't think she's 'slim' - I think she's very, very slight.

She's Audrey Hepburn 'slim' - which is really unusual. Whatever you think about body shape she is IMO quite far from the norm.

Audrey Hepburn was very undernourished as a child hence the 'slightness'.
That's not a desirable look even if natural. That's also what Audrey Hepburn said too, that she found it difficult to eat and had food issues. She hated the 'gamine' label and that others thought it beautiful.

"Whatever you think about body shape she is IMO quite far from the norm."

That is very true. Unfortunately the norm these days, in many cases, is overweight.

And its no wonder we have an eating disorder problem when there is a US size 6 model who is the face of a plus size fashion brand. Tatjana Patitz for Marina Rinaldi.

Why do actresses - including so-called A listers - insist on posing topless?

Bunbaker im overweight I used to be 21 stone and originally lost 10 stone Over the years i gained 4 back and have recently lost 2 and a half stone. But my weight has stuck and doesnt appear to be moving despite sticking to the slimming world plan. for over a year. I folllow it STRICTLY.

I did have a few days off at xmas My last sausage roll was 28th December My last bag of crisps was on New Years Eve. People in RL around me are beginning to get worried because apparently i shouldnt be able to remember dates like that.
For every obese person there is another overweight person FUCKING KILLING themselves to fit an ideal. Im not the only one There is another woman in my class sticking to plan and struggling. The mental stress this is causing me is making me more unhappy than my weight ever did.

slimming world have closed fb groups They tell us they are closed to protect our privacy. BULLSHIT.

Our sw consultant recently posted a picture saying that it was 19 weeks till Christmas and if you lose 3 pounds a week you could lose 5 stone + in that time Fast weight loss is fucking dangeous and can cause all sorts of health problems I ended up with gallstones the first time. My surgeon and two doctors told me it was caused by losing weight too fast.
Some of us just cant get down to a very low weight no matter what we do. But its not really about being healthy is it Its about being slim.

penisesarenotpink - can't you click on the link in the OP?

I think what Claire Cohen wrote was interesting.

KN does not look like a malnourished child, she has a perfectly lovely figure.
