Role models and inspiration

I have different role models for different things, but something I've always been particularly inspired by is when women do things that convention says they aren't cut out for.

My 'pick of the week' at the moment is Steph Jeavons who is going solo around the world on a motorbike.

Does anyone else have some other examples?

Nice JRRB. I struggle to watch climbers though - it terrifies me!

I listened to an interview with Prof Carol Robinson this morning on Radio 4.

for details. Not available yet to listen to.

What a role model. Although passing her 11+ attended a technical school because her father was suspicious of academic education for girls. Left at 16, joined Pfizer as a lab technician working on mass spectrometry, got her degree through a further ed. college over 7 years while still working, got her Phd in 2 years, took 8 years off to raise three children, returned at a lesser post than she was qualified for because "she used to be good", worked her way back up again, became the first female professor of chemistry at both Oxford and Cambridge University, and is now a world leading expert on mass spectrometry transforming it from a routine lab tool for checking what chemicals are present into a powerful research tool for drug development.

I listened to that on my way to work, Grimbletart.

It was so utterly fascinating that I sat in the car park until it ended, was late, but inspired!
