I hope I've put this thread in the right place, here goes.
At work I send out letters I won't go into mega detail but these letters have questionnaires attached that are only relevant to women, so we were told to avoid men getting these questionnaires we should look at the persons title.
Written in black and white it says this " send questionnaires to Miss, Ms, Mrs as they are women but not to Mr,Dr or Rev as they are men"
Really? I thought it was 2013 am I wrong?
I've raised this as an issue and the written procedure will be amended.
Just thought I would share that little nugget of bull shit with you all.

Yes freedom she must be, how could you not tell arf!
That procedure was written by a woman too the mind boggles.
Thanks buffy although I'm proably forever marked as a trouble maker now but I just like equality n stuff innit.

Oh so me and my SIL are both men (Dr and Rev).

Another bloke here then. Someone might like to tell my obstetrician that I am a medical miracle and he didn't notice!

Flippancy aside, that's really depressing.

Well peter Prof would surely be a man what with being clever and all that! Us women just like kittens and Sparkly shoes.
It is so depressing though isn't it and I've already had my piss boiled this week by someone telling my DD 'blue is for boys and pink is for girls' (incredible hulk emoticon)

I tweeted a link to your thread to @EverydaySexism, and it's been favourited on Twitter!

It's outrageous that this should happen in this day and age - and that it's by a woman too just beggars belief.

aside from the obvious- that is a really patronising note! the "as they are women" and "as they are men" is as if it's directing children to do it not adults!

where the hell do you work? (not genuinely asking! just shocked at how unreal that whole thing is)

Poledra · 09/07/2013 12:10

So what is the procedure being amended to? If they change to 'do not send to Rev, Dr or Prof as it is unclear if they are female', the you risk biasing your sample...

in fact the more I think about this the more odd I find it that this was the policy.

surely if you are sending letters to people you have gleaned their info from somewhere, so would have their name, address and probably gender anyway! why was title the thing used? if no gender then surely first name would have been the obvious thing to look at.

is this real?

You know when you get your PhD and you get handed what looks like a little scroll? Well it isn't, it's a brand new shiny little penis all of your own, just in case you don't have one.

You just staple it on, start talking bullshit and away to go Grin
