I just saw this on facebook, not sure if it has been discussed already. I'm posting a link to a petition to put pressure on the Maldives government.

Thanks for that, I am not a face book user but you have given me the opportunity to sign the petition - duly signed.

People should contemplate how they will feel lying on a sun lounger with this going on just out of sight on the islands tourists are not allowed to visit.

This has been going round for months, I think I first saw it last year.

The president asked the court to overturn this in February.

Also the sentence was not for being raped. She was having consensual sex with another man.

I believe that no one should be punished for consensual sex between adults, but that is the law in the Maldives.

Please instead of signing the redundant petitions that are doing the rounds can you do something about human rights generally?

This girl is not the first and will not be the last to face trials like this. What are you doing about the others?

What about the ones in Saudi? Sudan? Nigeria?

The petitions for the girl in the Maldives worked, Amnesty International has whole lists of people facing this and worse.
