A bit gobsmacked by what I saw in a branch of 'Cards Galore' today

These condoms

I'm not easily shocked or offended, but this is so vile and so misogynist - to women of all sizes Angry It's really just not something I would expect in a high street card shop. I haven't found their head office address to write to them yet, but I will do.

Wow. That is bad - looked expecting not to be offended, but its in pretty poor taste.

That is horrible. Anyway, why is the triangular one more attractive?

It's fucking horrible. So fat women aren't worth having sex with, or don't deserve protection? What misogynist arsehole came up with that idea...

I think you will find they are implying that without the condom the women will become large from being pregnant. Not a very good anti pregnancy message but nothing to do with size.

I can't work out what the message is. Does it mean "Don't fuck fat women" or does it mean "Don't fuck pregnant women"?

Either is grossly offensive, entirely unfunny and thought up by someone with the mental age of an 11 year old.

That is a fat woman not a pregnant one! That would be shown sideways if that was their message?

And it wouldn't be don't enter - it would be with/without a condom I would think

That's vile. But presumably many young boys will find it funny.

AbigailAdams · 30/11/2012 10:04

That is quite unbelievably offensive. (Not that I don't believe it just I can't believe someone thought that was a good idea!)

Whether young boys find it funny or not is not a good enough reason for that marketing ploy.

My immediate reaction was that it meant 'Don't use the one on this side as it's got a hole in it and the woman will get pregnant...'

I much prefer the packaging on the condoms I bought once which had a picture of willies with little Santa hats and 'Oh COme All Ye Faithful' written on it...

Sausageeggbacon · 30/11/2012 10:25

They have very limited space to try and get the message over. I read it as don't enter without a condom unless you want to get your partner pregnant. Sometimes I think if you think too hard about things you see a negative message in everything even if most other people don't. Still gave DD a snigger this morning.

That's not what it means Sausage because if they are depicting a pregnant woman, which I don't believe they are, then it's hardly sending the message not to get her pregnant is it? Since she already IS pregnant?

So, don't fuck her while she's pregnant? How does that make sense.

saysageeggbacon It has nothing whatsoever to do with pregnancy or prevention thereof. It is not woman and woman with bump (which is depicted side-on anyway). The woman overall is bigger, not just belly, with bigger legs too. The message has nothing at all, and is utterly nonsensical in that context, to do with pregnancy. It is simply 'Enter woman of this size, do not enter fat women' - and it's because it's ok for society to comment on and judge women's worth and desirability based on their dress size.

sausageeggbacon Also, it is not a safe sex message. It's one of a range of joke novelty condoms. 'Do not enter a pregnant woman' does not make sense at all as a ''This prevents pregnancy' message as someone has already pointed out.

it's because she's fat - look at the legs
oh my sides :(

It's not a pregnant picture FFS. You don't need to think very hard about what you're seeing to know that it's making fun of overweight women.

Yes, they have limited space. They get their disgusting message across very effectively.

It's vile.

And sausage is, as ever, wrong.

Report
Darkesteyes · 01/12/2012 22:48

Thats vile. And its definately meant to be a picture of an overweight woman not a pregnant one. As others have said if it was meant to be a pregnant woman the image would be sideways on.
And the reason they did this is because of the pressure on women in society to look and be a certain way. Wonder if these cunts have a fb page.
Better still theres the everydaysexism website.
CUNTS Xmas Angry

Gotta love you, sausage - you just have to refuse to see what's in front of your very eyes, don't you?

Report
Nigglenaggle · 02/12/2012 21:33

Its nice to think the best of people though sausage. However I think this time you are mistaken.
