Let us see if they dare to do the same ad with a man on there, not a woman.
In fact for real shock effect they could pick a very hairy Taliban man with long beard.

As well as being stunningly offesnsive, that poster also proves the point, which is often refuted on here by the "it's individual choice for me to shave my genitals and look like a pre-pubescent child and to tell myself I just prefer the cleanliness of it and nothing at all to do with social pressure" brigade that this issue of women's pubic hair (and by implication, women's sexuality) being disgusting is absolutely ingrained in our society and its attitudes to women. Pubic hair on women is now so universally unacceptable that an ad campaign can make the point in absolute assurance that everyone who sees it will understand the point.

I love the one where the young, tattooed, naked lady is advocating being comfortable in your own skin - yet it would seem, by her sexy high heel glamour shoes, she's not yet allowed by the organisers to be comfortable in her own feet!

I just took the ad as meaning visible pubic hair isn't attractive, not that pubic hair itself is bad. I must be missing something but I don't think it is really all that bad.

When I saw the ad, I didn't think for one minute it was suggesting anything other than clearly visible pubic hair isn't deemed attractive. I just don't believe it is saying that women's pubic hair is disgusting. It isn't - neither is men's.

Well actually, men's visually pubic hair in speedos is not deemed unattractive. Or at least if it is, they seem blissfully unaware of that.

So Peta is body-policing women with this ad.

But don't you see, SamuraiCindy, the two aren't equivalent because PETA's advertising tactics just wouldn't work with a man.

Imagine a hairy man standing there with hair poking out of his speedos, on his legs, under his arms. How could they possibly market that as unattractive and therefore socially unaceptable? They couldn't, cos that is every man, every day. No man ever feels embarrassed for showing a bit of hair.

But it works with a woman because women are held to higher "beauty" standards, and PETA are knowingly using that double standard to further their aims. That's what sucks.

What do you expect from PETA? They regularly use naked/semi naked women to grab headlines - they have no respect for women, tell lies about the way meat is produced to try and guilt people into being vegan and use fear tactics against those who don't toe their party line. This ad is just more of the same old same old

I think I see what you mean, Casey - it's a funny one though because lots of times I see people say online or hear it in person (I have been guilty of it myself) that they hate hairy shoulders and backs etc. on men and that it is gross when men look more like silverbacks than anything else...I have even heard men say this about other men!!! It never stops men going au naturel. Men are allowed to be this hairy and I suppose it is because of things like this that women don't feel the same.

I have been vegetarian for almost thirty years, and give monthly to five animal charities, so I DEFINITELY care about animals, and am in total contempt of anyone who sees nothing wrong with the fur trade or other cruel and barbaric treatment of animals. Peta I know are trying to raise awareness of cruelty, but they just should not do this by exploiting women. It leaves them open to condemnation and in turn it lets down the animals they purport to help, as the whole cause gets tarnished.
