I'm a dunderhead and I don't know how to do links Blush but seriously, you have to have a look at this article. It's entitled 'If you're too bolshy to put on lippy, why should any firm give you a job?'

My jaw is usually on the floor when reading her foul, self-obsessed, misogynist guff but she has truly surpassed herself this time. Or maybe it's some kind of brilliant self-parody..... Hmm

This is classic Liz Jones: "Women who feel no compunction to improve what nature bestowed upon them are, in my experience, arrogant, lazy or deluded, and frequently all three."

WTF?

Lizzy employed by patriarchy to spread self-hatred among women in order to sell cosmetic advertising space.

she would be a happier human being if she had more integrity, I feel.

I skimmed the article. It's difficult because I do think the harrods employee was being unreasonable. Harrods have a particular dress code, requiring makeup - if you don't want to wear makeup, then you shouldn't take a job there. It's part of the Harrods image so I think they were within their rights to tackle her about ignoring the dress code. [I will add, for balance, that I don't even own any makeup].

Liz Jones, however, takes it to a whole new level. Not wearing makeup (in the absence of a dress code!) doesn't mean that you are disrespecting other people/lazy/arrogant/etc. Liz Jones is totally image obsessed and that really says more about her than people who don't wear makeup.

she means compulsion, not compunction.

Daily Mail subs must be utter rubbish.

she'd be a happier human being if she hadn't pissed a load of her life away worrying about epilation

I read that while I was browsing the showbiz and gossip international news pages.

My first thought was: ooh MN will have a field day with this one! Grin

OK Liz Jones - nuff said - but I am Shock at how strict the make-up policy is for Harrods! Can't imagine working somewhere that thinks it has the right to dictate my personal appearance to that extent!

Anyway, I think Melanie is an attractive young lady. Not all of us suit lippie. Not all of us want to wear it. Last time I checked, I wasn't required to wear every product from the No.7 range to work at Boots.

Liz Jones should have been shot on sight at SlutWalk Grin

since Ms Jones has been so flattering in her description of me, i shall call her shallow, spiteful and a bit of a twat.

Report
skrumle · 05/07/2011 15:09

i wouldn't wear the amount of makeup specified by harrods even on a major night out! i don't actually own blusher or powder or lipliner...

"Of course, intelligence and hard work are important, but we shouldn't underestimate the reassurance a smart appearance gives others and ourselves. If a woman or man can't run a comb through their hair, how can we expect them to run a corporation?"

FFS...

She did not and does not say "you must wear make-up to get a job". The headline (you've actually written it here yourself) - suggests that if you've got an attitude problem - who would give you a job?

That girl should have put her work clothes on for the pictures. I'm sure that she 'scrubbed up' well enough to deflect criticism that she should know how to run a comb through her hair.

Liz Jones is mostly twat, I believe.

blimey can't believe I'm saying this but I actually agree with Liz Jones for once.

Many years ago I worked for Harrods on a Saturday in their lingerie department and you are expected to have a certain standard of appearance which includes make up.

In my job now on days where I don't meet the public no make up and dressed down but if we have a public/client facing event on goes the slap.

Similarly if I go out for hte evening I would wear make up.

Report
AuntieMonica · 05/07/2011 15:21

but Alpine, she also says An unmade-up face tells me you find it hard to get up early enough to attend to your maquillage.

so a refusal to wear make up, to Ms Jones, means you have no time management skills either?

Working for any corporate or large company/organisation you have to play their game which may involve subsuming part of yourself whilst at work

Unfortunately that's how the world of work is

"arrogant, lazy or deluded, and frequently all three." Takes one to know one, eh, Liz? She is so projecting with this.

Thanks for sorting the link MardyBra Wink

'Women who feel no compunction to improve what nature bestowed upon them are, in my experience, arrogant, lazy or deluded, and frequently all three'

I really do not know whether to tear my hair out or pee my pants laughing. I'm torn between laughing at the sheer OTT-ness of it all and being enraged that anyone, especially someone who calls herself a feminist, can be so utterly vile about women

So she slags off Abercrombie and Fitch for not being able to spell while at the same time writing compunction instead of compulsion. Ha ha!

Also the ex Harrods employee is far prettier than Liz Jones even sans make up. Liz Jones looks like a witch with her pale face and goth black hair. I don't normally like to have a go at women over their appearance but will make an exception for Ms Jones as she slags off everyone else.

I only read a few lines then had to stop for fear of by head exploding with rage. Awful creature. She should be assasinated.

I think that instead of getting up early enough to attend to her maquillage, she should have considered getting up early enough to sort her financial problems out. There is no excuse for her debts, given her income.

Report
JosieRosie · 05/07/2011 16:20

greycircles, as someone who has had debts myself I have loads of sympathy for anyone who finds themselves in the same position. However, I find her bragging about buying designer-this-and-that really nauseating. I once read in one of her own articles that she spent £575 on a pair of leggings! Shock That's nearly SIX HUNDRED POUNDS on a pair of leggings
