Does Playboy promote feminism?

A US academic has written a book suggesting as much, and she was on Radio 3 the other night debating with Joan Smith:

Night Waves

The bit I heard was interesting (5 days left to listen on i player)

Hmm, I don't know.

Does an organisation that objectifies women and reduces women to aids to masturbation and objects to be used for the sexual gratification of men promote the cause of ensuring that women are equal to men and not reduced to tits and arse and not seen as the property of men?

After careful consideration of a little less than one eighth of a second, I would have to say no.

Yes, Hefner does not like to use condoms when he has oiled up young teenagers writhing all over him calling him Daddy. I wouldn't say he was the best example of a male feminist.

I dont think so either. But the programme is worth a listen

Yes, I'm listening.

It's very depressing that anyone, especially a woman, could in all seriousness hold the view that hefner and playboy is anything other than out and out exploitation and objectification of women.

PMSL Magnificent and dittany

God, if you don't laugh you'll cry

On a more serious note, yep got to agree . Playboy definitely does promote feminism

[and Hugh Heffner is definitely not a pimp]

I refuse to listen to this programme.

Of course Playboy doesn't promote feminism. In the same way McDonald's doesn't promote healthy eating and BP doesn't promote eco awareness.

I've just listened ... apparently Hugh Heffner was a feminist before the women got there

Confused

And WTF... I'd love for there to be an entire programme devoted to one woman and for there to be a number of men discussing her life's work.

I can't believe it's seen as normal for these women to sit around putting their energy into discussing that sleazebag (or any man) on the radio

The day men do this for women will be the day I feel feminism is getting somewhere

It's a bit like saying the BNP are committed to ensuring and promoting racial equality and were the first to push for equality legislation and have a strict diversity policy.

My guess is that some man, male organization, possibly playboy itself is heavily promoting this academic and possibly funding her work

Does the Ku Klux Klan promote racial equality?

Let's all site around and debate that shall we.

It's a fucking insult isn't it. I think Dittany's right, this sort of shit is part of the attack on women's equality - if you can pretend that equality is anything men want it to be, you can better ensure that we never have equaliyt.

I can't beleive these dumb fucks play along. Am shocked by the stupidity and servility of someone like Anne McEvoy accepting such as stupid programme topic.

Honestly, you lot are so ungrateful. Of course playboy promotes feminism, every time I see one of their infernal bunnies on a small girl's pencil case I am all the more determined to smash the patriarchy.

Emmeline Pankhurst wasn't a patch on old Hef, tirelessly working for the rights of young women to wear a sex bunny rabbit costume. I salute him.

nope-hefner is definatly not a pimp-and i climbed everest today between 13-00 and 14-00-in my flipp-flopps and without any help.
[then sprinted back to do the dinner].

the more i hear of this low life the more i want to vomit.
this bloke seriously makes me feel sick-god he is dripping in so much male privalege isnt he.[and the money to bolster this male privalege even more-
the money that he has made from women]
but thats ok-him give to charrity.
he also supplies litterture for men while these men abuse these women[all these men probably think this makes them look a more intelligent kind of abuser]
this hefner is so minilipitive its unreal[but no it aint]-
he even married a woman who before they got married had a affair[apparently]and used this against her so he could sleep around.
and as elephants pointed out[good point]hes emblem is on our kids stuff!!!!!!!
wtf!!
he is just a scumbag with money.
it goes to show aswell that we are going backwards.
im so angry with this bloke[and the fuckwits that are licking hes arse] that
i feel like running down to hes club-donning a bunny outfit and yelling out"come on then"![trust me-i would look really unusual in a bunny outfit]

actually-this isnt a bad idea[i feel]-
does anyone [who doesnt meet societys and hefners idea of beuty]
fancy donning a bunny suit[with me] and either try to get in there-or stand outside the door protesting?
in the past i have managed to get into the hilton and piss on theyre floor[long story]
so im not worried about trying to get into places/protesting
[im not suggesting that we all piss on heffners club floor though]
is anyone up for it?
im not mad and i am serious.
can anyone see what im saying?[by protesting like this]

Told DH about this, his response was, "I think what the author actually meant to say was "I have dementia""

Grin at Empusa's DH.

We are talking about an organization that thinks it makes a woman more attractive to dress her as a rabbit, after all. He is spot on.

Definitely not a pimp

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1342643/Hugh-Hefners-Playboy-mansion-like-squalid-prison-say-Playmates.html

The man makes me cringe. I don't understand the 'return of playboy' that seems to have been gathering pace over the last few years. The Girls Next Door programme that was done for E was just bizarre. 3 young, surgically enhanced women who all look very similar are girlfriends of an 80 year old and we are supposed to envious of this life style? He seemingly rewarded their loyalty by putting them naked in his magazine so they could be ogled by other men. When they all split up with him they pretended to still be in a relationship to fulfill their contractual obligations to the show and the next season he had 3 more women, again looking eerily similar to the previous 3, including a set of twins!!
